Because during our evolution, the man with the most resources and materials had to acquire them himself through intellect and physical ability, signifying good genetics and physical resourcefuleness (attractive)

But then money came along and ****** it all up...now you don't need good genetics to acquire resources, in fact, quite the opposite

I'm not even close to being materialistic I actually was in a relationship with someone for 3 years and he did not work but I loved the fact that he treated me like a princess. But at the moment we are broken up because I need some alone time. Money and possessions come and go but memories and love are life time that's what I think.

well it seems that women are more on materialistic feelings because society makes it so, i mean look at commercials and ads anywhere you go. they usually say "why not show your partner how much you love her by giving her this huge and shiny rock on her finger" or instead of buying her a rose or even a dozen just whenever they convince that it should be on a special day. why not just on any day just because. its the simple things in life that we tend to forget about because we live life according to what society says. even magazines tell how women should look like. you could talk to a woman that no doubt is beautiful and just right for size and they will still think either they aren't beautiful or sexy or skinny enough. its like we are letting other people control how we should look at things and this goes in all aspects of life whether it be fasion, work, relationships and even how we see our own society. whats funny is that its not only women though, its even some guys too. there are still many things that depends on gender sure, but these days it seems to be more on what type of person individuals are. well sorry for the random and non-organized answer but gotta go and thank you for the brain massage!

is that a statement or a question? if anything men are the ones who are materialistic when it comes to love. I know from experience and my girlfriends can testify. when a guy really like you or love you he just showers on the gifts out of no where. it may seem that because women are now accustomed to it we might expect it. But it was males that started this trend

One time me and my honey were having a really romantic conversation (he was at work i was at home and we live together) and the conversation ended. Then he called me and told me that he was on his way home and told me to get ready to go out. I said "why" and he said "cause I have been thinking about your, about us, ima take you on a shopping spree!"

I think many women have been raised to believe that a man should take care of them. Therefore, they want to date a man with the resources to do that. I believe it is changing, though slowly. As more and more women enter the workforce and make more money, they will will rely less on men and probably postpone marriage, as they will not need any caretaking. I think it is happening already. Myself, I would love to have a man to stay at home and take care of the house and cooking. It would be wonderful to go to work, then come home and relax.

Unfortunately I agree with you, however, being a woman who is not obsessed with materialistic matters especially when it comes to love,I speak for myself..
Love is simply priceless, not an emotion to be taken lightly or abused, complex yet easily given & received by most,Loving unconditionally is the only way I can accept love in my heart & give it undyingly.

I am not materialistic at all. A man's wallet doesn't catch my eye - it is the way he makes me feel that does. I mean every woman and man as well like financial stability and security but that doesn't mean you would want to be with someone for their money. I would never marry for money - I would marry for love and what makes us rich would be our love between us :)

I'm materialistic to the point that I've rejected love completely in favour of earning my own money. How ya like me now?

My theory:

It derives from the distant past. Eons ago, it was crucial to be able to provide for the inevitable children that would result from sexual relations.

Your survival, and your child's, too, would depend on how well you picked a man who could give you food, shelter, and protection.

It was such deadly serious business that it became part of a woman's survival instinct.

To be fair, men carry some baggage from those days, too: to ensure many healthy offspring, younger women (who were healthier and stronger) who still had a lifetime of childbearing ahead were preferred.

Men today still choose younger women over older, and more healthy-looking over sickly.

What, specifically, are you talking about?

I don't consider myself to be materialistic regarding love.

Maybe some women just want a man that can provide for them?
