You likely have an infection, and yes, it is unusual for someone 18 to get Br. Ca. If you are given antibiotics, take them, and if it does not clear up during the time you are on the meds, go back. If you don't like what you hear, ask for a mammogram. If you are not satisfied, ask for a sonogram. See another obgyn too, if you're stilll not satisfied. Remember, it is YOUR breast!!!! and money is cheap when it comes to your health..... Mammograms in young women aren't really of much use, since the breast tissue is quite dense in young women. My dad was a doc, and his comment was that he considered anything unusual or any lump as cancer until proven otherwise. I am sure there were lots of unnecessary biopsies from his office, but he probably saved lots of women too. Send me your address, and I will send you a video on inflammatory br. ca. I'm: swan_silver2000@yahoo.com, and I don't care if others find my mail box, if it helps you.

Anyone can get cancer at any time. If you are asking people if you might have cancer, I would tell you that you need to see an actual doctor. They may say it is rare but DO NOT take that risk. The one person said "if you don't have a family history of it, don't worry about it." That is completely false! Cancer is a serious thing and if you think you might have it, then go have it checked out, the sooner the better.

honestly, i think it is an infection, or something benign. Breast cancer is possible for someone young, but VERY rare. I know how you feel,i had surgery to remove a mass last friday and i was a nervous wreck thinking i have breast cancer, and im only 20 years old. But i went back to the surgeon today and he got the results back on what it was, and it was a fibroadenoma....benign tumor..so that was a HUGE relief off my shoulders! The best thing to do is to go to the doctor and get it checked out, im sure you will be fine! best of wishes to you!

You can get cancer at 18---but is not likely. If you have a family history of breast cancer, however than it becomes more likely. But you are going to a doctor so do not worry....I would guess it IS an infection because of your age...but if you have a family history, I would get dr. check-ups and do self exams frequently.

Why does everyone first assume a problem is cancer related?
There are many other infections and possibilities. Don't start worrying until you know the diagnoses.
And yes, cancer can strike anyone at any age.

It is probably an infection. You don't have to be nursing to get one. I used to know a *man* who got one. So don't worry until you have some actual facts to worry about.
