I've known my friend for nearly a decade but have only seen her a few times in the last three years due to us being at universities a 90 minute train ride apart.

I went to visit her a few weeks ago, the first time I've seen her since I broke up with my long-term girlfriend a few months back. There's always been something between me and her and this time it seemed really evident.

Anyway, at one point she was rooting around in her bag for some money when I caught glimpse of a single condom. She quickly hid it from my view. Later on her phone was ringing and I grabbed it from her bag to give it to her; again I caught site of it and saw that it was the singular type dispensed by machines in restrooms.

I know her very well and she's not the sleep around type. I've discussed it with friends and we're half and half on it; was the condom there in case something happened with me, or just generally in case she meets someone (remember she's against promiscuity).

Any thoughts?

She's probably just being prepared.

Not saying she sleeps around, as you stated, but maybe she thinks it could happen and she doesn't want to be caught without protection.

My guess? She simply had it on hand "just in case" - nothing to do with you.

If she was really thinking that something could happen with you, she probably wouldn't carry only the one - she'd be more likely to have several. One could break, you might end up doing more than one act, and so on.

Sure, she's against promiscuity, but you never know what will happen, and having that condom on hand means not getting pregnant because of one mistake. Most parents I know tell their daughters to carry condoms, even if they're against sex, because it's better to be prepared than to have regrets.

if she hid it from you. It was there for her. just in case. You can't blame a woman for protecting herself. Just know that she's taking care of herself. Look, you're not around. So the condom couldn't have been for you. Else she would have made an opportunity to use it with you when you came down. Understanding this, you might want to get to know her a little more. She might be a little more freeky than you thought.

Well unless she is still with you no point asking. Its not being promiscuous she is being safe in-case she gets lucky with you or anybody, the fact its just one is for emergency use, a box of them would tell you something different. If you were smart you'd ask her why she has it and be done with it but if she says for emergency use you might have to tell her you think ones about to happen between you.

she sounds like a smart girl. there's nothing wrong with her being prepared to protect herself just in case, everybody who is sexually active should do the same thing. there's no real way to tell if she intended it for a particular person, but that doesn't mean she doesn't hope something would happen with you. personally, i think you should go for it. i'm now engaged and raising children with the man i've been friends with since we were 13.

You saw her a few times in 3 years and you "know" she doesnt sleep around? Ya ok.

I always have one in my purse. Better safe than sorry, and Im not one to sleep around. Just better to have it and not need it ... also in case a friend needs it.

you're not clear.....
Are you really interested in that woman? If you are, then, instead asking us, you may ask her. Every relationships have to be based in trust and confidence. If it was for you, she will tell you.

But on the contrary, if you are not interested in her as a woman but only as a friend, forget what you have seen and make as you didnt see it. Even, if you are not interested........dont be curious ..........
LIVE AND LET OTHER PPLE LIVE !!!!!

PS Good for her for being prevent, and try to protect herself

Well it doesn't hurt to be prepared. It could have been bought with you in mind, is your relationship heading that way? Maybe you should ask her out on a date, if she accepts then you're on the right road.

there's nothing wrong with being prepared. In any event, life has a funny way of tossing temptations out their. I think that is she is as virtuous as you say, that it was probably for you. I would just take it as it comes. who knows what the future holds.

Safety reasons, just in case the spur of the moment. its like carrying a bandaid. Plus if some jerk wants to attack and ra** her then she can ask them to use it
