I would like to know people's opinion on this situation...

This morning, I went into the garage to get my shoes and the garage door was left open all night. My wife and her sister were the last ones to come in after some late night shopping. All the kids were in bed, even myself. I immediately told them that they had left the garage door open all night and left the garage door open to prove it. They told me that they were sure the garage door was closed because they had watched it close because they wanted to make sure it would close behind one of our cars. I checked the doors, they were locked. I checked our cars outside that have remotes and they are locked. Logically it didn't make any sense, but due to them defending themselves and me raising my voice to tell them it didn't make sense it was not a win/win situation. Would have it been easier for them to say it was their fault, since they were the last with no explanation or do you continue to defend your statement?

You were right to call them down on it. I know people who argue to cover up their lies. It is easier to argue than to take responsibility for the mistake you have made. I live in a house full of such people, they make me sick. Why is it so hard for someone to admit a mistake, why do people have to lie to cover up such a small thing as leaving the garage door open? God, take the blame for what you did and say your sorry and try not to let it happen again and go on with life. I get so sick of someone arguing over little things. Just shows how petty some people can be.

They seem to be pretty sure they did'nt leave the garage door open, even to the point of saying they actually watched it close........are they usually inclined to lie for each other to be in the right? if so there's not much you can do but feel fed up and frustrated.......does your wifes sister live with you? if so perhaps it's time she moved on.

Would it have been easier for you to say it was your fault - you had been mistaken?

Is it possible that both are right?

Our garage door, when presented with any obstruction to the "eye", goes right back up. Could this have happened last night (after they saw it BEGIN to descend)?

Well it would be better just to forget it.... Sometimes people think they done something when they did not.... Nothing was taken or stolen nothing was wrong... It is better to just let well enough alone because what satisfaction will come from them saying they done it? All it is gonna do is cause more trouble... Move on to something more important and let by gones be by gones..

I think it would just be better to drop it. Nothing was stolen or damaged. Unless you are just trying to pick a fight over someting. Life is too short to get upset over something that meaningless.
Good Luck

i think catie is right. some things are worth it, and you need to pick your battles. if you really think it was them, watch them the next couple of times they come back. don't get mad or angry just make sure they know your there to see and they will remember. if they don't then u can call them on it. i am in the military and i have done this with my "troops". i don't like to fight or be confrontational, just present your case with facts, then trust, but verify.

Would of been easier to say it was their fault, but they were probly afraid that you would get more angry, so they chose to lie about it.
