WAIT.... that is what I did. I have wanted a tattoo since I was 17... I too had a hard time picking something.... so I waited. And waited. And lived a wonderful life... and waited some more. And experienced all sorts of things... and developed a character and personality over the next few years... and finally, when I turned 42 I went and got a tattoo!! I made sure it was something that meant something to me...that represented who I had become...and was in a place that I could live with the rest of my life. I have never regretted the tat... and am so glad I waited!!!

Have patience - keep looking - when the right idea grabs you, then sit on it for a while, and if you still like it after a couple of weeks, go for it.
I wanted a tattoo for years, but I was donating blood, and so I waited. (I don't know if it is still the case, but they would not take blood from someone with a tattoo.) Then a got malaria and couldn't donate any more so I started thinking about a tatt - but I was living in Africa, where theAIDS rate is through the roof and sanitation isn't very good. Again, I waited.
Ended up in Micronesia, where tribal tattoos go back hundreds of years. And they do great decorative tattoos down the side of the leg. Bingo.
By the way, the where is as important as the what - think of where you might be and what doing in 20 years before you put a scorpion on your nose or something like that.

I was the same way for years! I'm glad I waited cuz the ones I thought I wanted then I wouldn't like now. Tattoos are personal, of course, so you will just know what you want when you see it.There's tattoo magazines, too, or go into a tatt place and look around. They always have loads of drawings and portifolios of their work. Or, better still ,design your own .The tatt artists will be glad to draw out whatever you want, if you can't draw it yourself.

Yes you should get a tattoo, they are great. Also they don't hurt that bad. Do you have kids? Get thier name. Or you could get your anitials or the first letter of your name or your whole name. Not sure those are my idea's. And you only live once so don't be as picky. You also can get something over it or erased as well, if you get something then not like it. Good luck.

I'm really finicky so I made a rule that I'd only get a tattoo if I liked the same design, without change, in the same location, without change, for one whole year. I found one that I liked and a year and half later I got it done. It has been three years now and I still love it. I'm at the six month mark for my next tattoo.
Since I'm so finicky, I decided to get a lot of piercings (8 so far) since they are less permanent and I can change my mind anytime. It was a good compromise to really get me prepared for the longevity of a tattoo.

If you are THAT picky then I would say no or you should spend YEARS thinking about the same design before you get it done. I'm picky about my tattoos, but I can still find things that mean a lot to me and matter.
(I dont like hearts and butterflies and girly things either, but tattoos don't have to be gender specific.)

I have a tattoo, its of a wolf, I am native american so I chose something that relates to me in a special way. You should get something that REALLY means something to you, so you won't regret it years later. Its good to be picky, the celtic tribal ones are pretty, have you visited a tattoo parlor and looked at some of their designs? OR, you could find something you like, have it printed out or copied onto paper and take it to the tattoo parlor, they can copy it and create a tattoo just for you, they usually need them a day in advance, then they get it drawn on you, if you like the look, THEN they do the tattoo....
yeah the butterflies, hearts, fairies and roses on crosses are getting a lil tired.
Hope ya find what you are looking for!

This hard to answer as a tattoo should reflect a person's personality. And, there not enough here to tell. You like Horses? You have a hobby? More information about your REAL life, will help find you a TAT that is you. Below are a few small designs, one I would drop the Dragonfly.

I was extremely anal about how I wanted my tattoo to be... like you I didn't want hearts or anything like that either, but I wanted something strong and feminine. I wanted absolutely no black and the tattoo artist even let me approve the colors to make sure it was ok. I chose to put it on my back so if I want I can show it and if I don't it can be covered. The tattoo I chose was a smoking lotus that the artist actually altered from the flash so, in case anyone came in and wanted to get it, mine would still look different. I have apicture of it on my 360 page if you want to take a look.
Because of the detail in my tattoo it was even put in a magazine :)

I chose not to get a tattoo because I couldn't decide what I wanted, and my tastes change every 5 years. I get a temp one every so often just for fun
