I think you should be honest for one. Be nice but be honest. I guess it is true that friends make some of the best 'significant others' but thats not always true. One thing that is true is that if you force a relationship into existence it will not work. A relationship takes two to work. So if your not feelin it dont go for it. It will just build a lot of heartache for the both of you. Just tell the person that youre just not interested. If that person is really a friend then this will not ruin your friendship.

You have to tell him the truth. Its hard because in this situation you might lose him in both ways. First if you tell him that you would like to only stay friends, that you really love the friendship you have and that you think its best that you just remain friends, he might feel a little rejected and pull back. But if you do not mention it to him and keep him wondering weather or not he has a chance it will drive him crazy and would not be fair to him. Which can also drive him away.
But if he really cares about you, he SHOULD respect your feelings and your honesty and should be able to remain friends with you. It just might take him a while to cope.
good luck.

No one can force you to be in a relationship. Remember that. Just tell him/her that you only like him/her as a friend, and he/she will have to take that. Remember, it's up to you. If you're afraid that that might break up your friendship, don't worry about it. Just remember that no one can force you to be in a relationship you want to be in, and whatever happens after that, basically, you have no control over. I would rather be w/ out a friend than be in a relationship where I'm not happy in.

DO not lead them on in any way. Be straight up with them that you just want to stay friends. It is important you do this so you do not ruin a good friendship.

tell them how you feel! it's really the only way to save feelings from being crushed!
you could put on a show and live a lie and prenend to go with him but then you will really be crushing his little heart!
just tell him you don't think he is the one for you! and you hope that doesn't hurt the friendship but if it does then he was only being friends with you to get in your pants! then it would be time to move on!

tell them up front..do not avoid it. You will put them through all kind of heartache if you don't. Although don't be surprised if one day years down the road you find yourself liking them..it happened to me.
