Ok, so this is a little embarassing and gross.

Many many years ago, when I was about 12 years old, I had noticed that there were little tiny white worms around my rectum...

Being 12, and really scared, I didnt want to tell my parents so I took some left over worming medicine that was used for our dogs.

After that the problem dissapeared..

but now im still left wondering, what did I have? How did I get it? Is it something I should still worry about today?

Could have been pin worms or tapeworms, both of which are introduced into the digestive tract through nail biting of dirty fingers or eating food that has fallen to the floor. Many kids gets parasitic worms because they don't wash their hands often or properly, and generally pick up dirty items and put them in their mouthes. The dog medication for worms won't kill you, as the dosage for dogs is much smaller than that for humans, so you need not worry.

Tapeworms, ringworms, and the like are introduced into the intestines through unsanitary habits, usually among children.

Well sweetheart, you had pinworms: whether the worming medication for the dogs did it or not, I don't know but, I wouldn't doubt it. You see many of the medications we have today is used on dogs and other animals first, sometimes for years before being released to the public.
I wouldn't worry, many children have pinworms and you'd die knowing half of the bacteria you carry on you that is alive, about 47 different kinds, most are good bacteria that you can't wash away, you need them, the other die soon and slough away.
