My boyfriend was in the military also he was in the ARMY and well he finished his contract wit the ARMY and applied for the LAPD but they asked him if he had smoked weed in the past year he replied yes after that he had to wait about the year and now its been a year he applied (he has been cleaned) so now hes still in the prosess to get into the acadamy so weee....:D my baby made it so i guess i mean it all depends on the people interviewing you because i had my friend get her bachlers in Criminal Justice, she passed everything but then they asked her if she ever been exposed to drugs she said she would go to parties n they had ecstacy and she was next to the people that did it n well they didnt let her in the door just for knowing someone that used it. so it depends on whom u get its really up to them so would b hard on you some wont.

The LAPD will take into consideration his record in the Marines to determine if he has really changed. He does have a chance, but he better be up front with the truth when asked. Once you tell a lie, nothing you say will be believable.

He still has a chance to get in... I've been asking that same question because I'm in the same situation. just tell him to be totally honest when he answers all the question given to him... After that its up to the employer in this case the lapd if they want to hire him...
Good luck!!!

They are actually a model police department. Other agencies around the country adopt their policies and procedures. You will even notice a lot of departments that pattern their vehicles after LAPD. They are not the department of "old" and even then they were a good department with poor leadership.

If that's all he has on his background and he is honest during the application process he should have a fairly good chance of getting hired. But there are no guarantees. While one department may hire him, there are others that wouldn't even consider him.

Awhile ago they hired gang members. I don't remember which gang b or C, but anyway if they'll do that, I doubt your buddy will have too difficult a time. I though that being on drugs was a requirement for becoming a police officer anyway.

He does. It won't be easy though, he will have to really walk the walk and show his commitment to joining the force.

He may get in, just has to be honest and never touch that stuff again.
