Hello everyone, I'm using dsl internet service, Windows XP(5.1),
Service Pack 2, and AVG free(7.1.409.), spysweeper, and Norton
Internet Security as extra security. I've had the above on my
computer four years, and check them all for updates daily.

Ok...here is the situation: AVG detected and stored four viruses in
the vault. This morning I noticed that my customized photo was
replaced(without my permission), with one of Window's default
photos, and I was unable to do a system restore to an earlier date.
Otherwise, the computer "seems" to be running fine, though my
customized photo is no longer in "my pictures" folder.

The name of the four viruses are: Trojan Horse Flooder.AKE, and they are under 4 different file names: winlongon.exe(two of these),
A0079791.exe, and A0079792.exe. The "heal" option doesn't seem to be active, and when I click "heal" in the vault, nothing happens. When I click "details" for each, it says backup copy infected.

AVG seems to be the only program which detected these viruses, so I'm wondering if the problem has originated on AVG's end, and has something to do with their recent change to a new free edition. I've never had a virus detection before yesterday, and I've had the same programs installed four years. Also, when I tried to join their message board from my AVG console, I received a message saying "unavailable". So I can only read messages, and AVG doesn't seem to have any "real" answers.

Here is my question: Should I leave the viruses in the vault, or delete them? And why did my desktop photo change, and what's up with system restore? If I'm able to do a system restore(will try again)
while the viruses are in the vault, will that delete them completely?

NOTE: Someone suggested that I turn off system restore, right click on my computer select properties go to the system restore tab check the turn off system restore. Then go to AVG and delete the files in the vault, then turn system restore back on to clear any restore points previously stored
and start a new one with those files feleted. Then reboot and rerun all scans. Is this advice correct?

Thank you in advance for any help that can be offered.

By the way, since AVG is giving me this problem, I would prefer not to upgrade or change to any other free or paid services they offer. I am looking for advice on how to clear up this matter, so that I can just move on with my internet activities.

Update the antivirus program and try once again. Also install an anti spyware and scan the PC. I can give a few links that offer free spyware removers...! . Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html If antivirus and spyware remover software does not work, you can try to restore the computer to an older working configuration. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html

It quarantines them, so as that they at the instant are not deleted yet can not injury your laptop. the rationalization why it does that's by using the fact often times it sees classes as viruses on the same time as they at the instant are not, that's called fake positives. shop the viruses interior the vault, and in case you notice your laptop is working usually you could delete them.

Just leave them in the vault they are harmless now. If you feel uneasy about them go to the vault and empty it
