While most of the answers posted are correct there is an exception to hunting wild boar in Texas. If you are hunting on your own property, not you families or a friends or leased property. If the hog are destroying your crops you can shot them without posessing a hunting license. If you have hog destroying your property make a little money off them by charging people hunt them on your property.
I highly recommend you contact Texas Parks & Wildlife about the regulation on the hogs in your area. Remember "Ignorance is not an excuse in the eyes of the Law."

You do need at least a hunters license and then maybe you will have to buy an over the counter tag or put in a drawing for one. Unless they are classified as rodents whereupon you can.
My real point of posting though is javelina are not wild boar or feral pigs but actually a real rodent and is wild and NATIVE, collared peccary, I believe is the term for them. They are very similar but have differences and been in the southwest for a long time, they are similar and root up plants and are dangerous if cornered. Just some information I learned a while back. So, generally they are not considered a rodent for hunting purposes.

You really don't hunt wild-boards. Trees get mad when you shoot them.
Now that i got the joke out of my system.
For Wild boar, javalina, razor back and other wild pigs, you do need hunting licenses. even if they are rooting up your back yard.

Get a 22LR for rabbits and squirrels. The 243 is a huge deer rifle. some human beings will say 'get a 30-06' yet it incredibly is greater of a generalist 'do something' cartridge. The 243 is plenty valuable sufficient for deer. real, the 243 isn't any elk cartridge the 243 would not be a sturdy determination for searching grizzly undergo, yet for whitetail deer the 243 is extensive

Not sure what hunting wild-board is . . . I'm curious what that means. I was thinking 'shoot wild boar' but it could be a colloquialism.

I might add that in my state, hogs are not regulated, but it's a poor idea to be walking around in the woods with a rifle and no license during deer season. There's no way for the game warden to know you're limiting yourself to hogs.
