What things can I mix/dissolve in jars of water (for decorative purposes) to produce different colours. i.e. How do I produce a jar of red water, blue water, etc. The exact colour doesn't matter but I want the jars to be a uniform colour and, if possible, I want them to stay the same colour.

Food coloring works, but you can also use highlighters, just take the highlighter apart and use the tube of ink inside, put this into the water. It may take a while for the color to form but you will end up with brightly colored water. The great thing about using highlighters is that you can get them in just about any color and they are very bright which will make beautiful neon colored water. I had a friend who used to do this in absolute vodka bottles and display them on his mantel, is was very unique and decorative. You could also use tea or coolaid but it won'tt last as long.

I presume you could simply put a drop of vegetable dye in the water; I haven't used the stuff in a long time, but certainly it used to be possible to get a set of small bottles of red, yellow, and blue dye at most grocery stores in the baking supplies aisle.

Easy really, just use some food colouring - same as is used to colour icing.

Coloured Crepe or Tissue paper will give you the effect you require . Both are widely available from your local newsagent , craft store , any branch of Internationalle or Au Naturalle .

High lighters! Open them and put the contents in the water. Of course don't drink it. Food color dissolves too fast and fades unless you shake it often.
