you should probably strip it first. You can buy it at a pharmacy like CVS it is where the hair color is and is called hair color remover and then dye it the color you want.

I have darkish brown hair, too so I know what u mean. My friend describes my hair as almost black. Anyways, the best thing to do is to put lemon juice in ur hair and sit out in the sun for an hour or 2. It made the tips of my hair lighter after I did it once. If u repeat it a lot, it should make ur hair lighter. If that doesn't work you could try Sun In. I have 2 warn u that it might give ur dark brown hair a reddish tint.

If your hair is dark black it all depends on the color you want now because most likely you will need just a bleach aka a booster. Just remember not to use too many chemicals at once!!

Well my hair is naturally dark bown to black well when we dyed it blonde all you have to do is get the dye that you like and when you let it sit in you hair take a blow dryer on low and use it like your normally drying your hair( but with a plastic bag over your hair) It will defiinatly work but dont keep it on for to long unless you want it to be lighter!!!

I love dying my hair black inthe winter time, I dont know why. But last time I did, I wanted to dye it light brown afterwards and it wouldnt take (obviously). I got a good tip from a hair stylist. Because I love doing black hair and then adding bright red or blue chunks to it, she told me to dye my hair the darkest brown instead of black. This way I dont have to strip my hair or bleach it or anything when I want to change my haircolor, and this way I dont damage my hair as much.

you should go to a hairstylist because she would know exactly what needs to be done. doing it yourself is risky and there are other things that fall into play when it comes to coloring and lightening hair... if it is virgin hair (no color in it whatsoever. ie. youve never colored or lightened your hair,) you can use color to lighten your hair but it will only lift it a maxium of four shades, it may get you around the area that you want.... otherwise, a stylist will have to use a lightener and then a toner...

best of luck hun! just remember that box colors are a guessing game...

You can use a booster. Check the beauty supply store or ask a beautician which is best for you.
