I do not know about atypical depression in particular, but I have suffered from clinical depression in the past.
One thing that helped me to learn more about my condition, and to know that I was not alone, was to visit the Depression Central website. It is chock-full of information and has a guest book with many, many names of fellow sufferers.
This site meant a lot to me.
Here is the link: http://www.psycom.net/depression.central.html
Feel good, and all the best.
BTW: I see that there is a link for Atypical Depression.

Make sure you get to that appointment and you let your doctor know everything!! When you are depressed helping yourself is probably the hardest thing to do. They say depression is due to low levels of the chemical serotonin. Bananas contain this try it. It's something that will take minimal effort when you feel the way you do. If you can bring yourself to do some exercise that could help too. Apparently it releases endorphins which can make you happy.

I suffered with clinical depression for many years. Exercise helps release the body's natural endorphins which will lift the mood. A good diet and drinking plenty of water/fluids. Also mixing socially which I find hard myself. Staying by myself if I am down is the worst thing I can do because I can turn in on myself. Also sharing troubling thoughts with a person you can trust is a good way to relieve worry. Take care and God bless you.(Prayer to our Lord Jesus Christ I find is the best way to ensure help)

Depression can be triggered by a number of things, genes, shock, stress.
You need to take a look at the things in your life that are making you feel down, why are you unhappy? What is triggering you to feel like this? can't sleep? loss of concentration? tiredness? snappiness? tearfulness? lonliness? lack of sex drive? no motivation?
Best thing you can do is take some time for you. Write down the way you feel. The things that make you feel upset fed up or demotivated. Take it with you to see the doctor. Will help explain why you feel the way you do and help to pin point the reasons behind it. Tablets are great but do they actually deal with the cause of whats making you feel like you feel.
Sorry to hear you feel like you do. I have been there its not fun. But it does get better. Don't ignore or be afraid of delaing with it.
Its ok to feel down and be depressed. Its doing nothing about it that is not ok!!
xx

If you think you have depression---you do. But the great thing si that it's not SO bad that you can't recognize it and you are getting help. Please remember....if you are given medications, that's fine....but you HAVE to also get counseling. Meds won't fix the depression. It will take the edge off so you can live and get help. Once you and the doctor figure out why you have this depression, you can fix it.

by all means seek professional help, I applaud you for recognizing that. You can do some things to help too, get out,get out into the sunshine- sunshine helps with battling depression. eat pineapple, pineapple contains substances that hep fight depression, it is natures antidepressant. Play the glad game, focus on your accomplishments, not your failures. Try to see the good in all things.

we're not the ones to ask this of hun, sorry. all we can do in something like this is to recommend seeing your doc, cuz he or she is the only one who can diagnose you. please be sure to keep that appt, ok? the doc will be able to tell you, and if you do have this, the doc will also suggest ways to help. after you find out whether or not you have this, and if you do, come back and we can talk about it then. all righty?
