You act honorably, and go with the date. If you've commited to something, you shouldn't back out- not just because something else seems more exciting. Be a good friend and spend the evening with your bud.

Is this more exciting event worth your friendship? Because that's what it could ultimately cost you. If you choose the more exciting event, then I don't think you're a very good friend. Friends keep their dates.

I would forget about the exciting one, but you can always come up with some family issues,

You tell your date honestly of what has happened. You explain that it will be a pleasure to make plans on another evening but at present you cannot make it for this one and apologize.

just kindly reschedule. or think....would going on this date lead to something more that you are looking for or is the other thing way more better than anything that could ever happen with this date??

if your friend was really a friend they would want you to do what excites you the most.

you could always ask the friend to join you.

Come up with a with a good excuse. think of a real problem you had before that way you'll have "facts" to back you up.
