Hi,
My mom actually does this for a living and she did my bone scan when I had an ankle injury. The injection is radioactive dye (sounds a little weird, but it's painless and harmless). They want to wait for the dye to spread throughout your body, so that's probably why they want you there three hours prior.

As for the scan itself, you just lay on this bed while a machine basically takes pictures of you (pretty much like getting an X-ray). The dye gets darker in areas where there is an injury, etc. So that's what they're looking for.

You'll probably be out of there in four hours or so, so you might just want to take off work that day. Otherwise, you won't feel sick or anything (unless your allergic to the dye, but that's rare as far as I know) so you could feasibly go back to work if you wanted.

Hope this helps and good luck!

A bone scan is painless all you need to do is lay on the table with your legs bent resting on a pillow and the machine dose the rest I had one not to long a go If you don't want to wear one of those hospital gowns all you need to do is make sure that you are wearing leggings and a sports bra with no metal hooks.I hope you get good results

the morning anyway (or afternoon.) The iv med is injected, allowed to work its way around, then you get whole body scan to look for hot spots where the stuff absorbed more than other places.

unless you have a moring appointment it will take up most of your day. three hours is a bit of time.

they will trace the injection on your bones to see when the thinner bones are at the joints.
