I spent New Year 2001/2002 on the top of Adams Peak in Sri Lanka to witness the first sunrise of the new year... but that, that was just... spectacular. Exhausted from the climb, freezing from spending a few hours bare feet on a marble floor (snuggling up to pilgrims and munks for some warmth), it all didn't matter. The amazing triangle and seeing the mountains uncovering as the sun got higher. I skipped all the steps down again... most beautiful memorable start of a year or day for that matter...

Amsterdam -it was the best New Year's eve ever
it's a good place to celebrate and let your hair down, it was packed to the brim and we were walking round town with a bottle of champagne and some crystal glasses till gone 2am.
went back to the hotel when got quite frozen and carried on until 11 am. got up and went to a coffee house for breakfast :)
it was a brilliant time - but it's quite an expensive city, so bear it in mind. Also Euros are like monopoly money - so easy to spend

The last time I had to spent my New Year's Eve oversea was when I was clubbing with friends at Hilton, Malaysia to say good bye to the old year and welcome the New Year.

It was spectacular because of the beautiful display of fireworks, people were wishing others well. The event did not stop until quite early after midnight.

Drinking a can of lager, sitting on the top of a certain Embassy compound wall in Jeddah watching the sun set across the city. The air was warm, the city lights were flicking on, there was the usual dusty/chicken s**t middle eastern street smell, and afterwards we all slipped into the hot tub and drank the night away. I am going back a long long time (late 80's) but I can still sense it all now.

My birthday is 19th December and having been born in 1949, my husband treated us to three weeks away in North Cyprus. We arrived in the early hours of my birthday, and that evening went to see friends who owned a restaurant there and walked right into a surprise 50th birthday party they had laid on for me...though I didn't notice all the balloons and posters till it was pointed out to me!

Christmas day was spent at their restaurant with a special party meal for around 20 people...starting around 2.30 it went on well into the night and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We were all back there again for the News Years Eve party, which was the dawn of the new millennium, and we had a tremendous time....lots of food and drink and games and wonderful company. At midnight we watched the fireworks over Kyrenia Harbour, cheering loudly as each one lit up the sky...we helped the Germans celebrate their New Year, then helped the UK celebrate theirs....a few of our merry band were all for seeing in America's as well, but the majority of us decided that sleep would be a better option and around 5 in the morning we made our way back to our respective abodes, with us strongly resisting the invitations to go back to other's places for a nightcap!

We would normally have only gone for two weeks, but with the day we would have been due to fly back being 1st January, and with all the confusion about whether or not it would be safe to do so...also the fact that there were no planes flying that day....we were forced to spend another week out there enjoying the company of some good friends, with good food, and lovely places to visit!

I spent the millenium in Sydney and went to a fantastic rave at the Olympic Stadium. Saw the pre-midnight-fireworks at the harbour bridge first and then danced my socks off till about 10am the next day.....Ah the memories!
