Is he still taking naps during the day? If he is, I'd suggest quitting naptime and having quiet time instead. Quiet time can be shorter so he doesn't sleep during the day and you could let him color or read books quietly instead of sleeping. Be sure his bedtime is at the same time each day and that he has an established bedtime routine. Aside from that you could try putting a white noise machine in his room. Sometimes white noise can soothe a busy mind into relaxing and sleeping better than quiet. Good luck!

Is he taking any naps during the day? That could be a problem. Having a night light in the room also is a good idea. Before I got one of those, I can a musical light up carosel for my son in his room. It would stay on for about 20 minutes, then shut itself off. Or you can try playing with him for the last hour he is awake. Take him outside to play ball(weather permitting) or have him run around the house to play.

my gal is 4 1/2 and we just keep the same routine...well having no one make any noise could be an issue..we keep our routines regular and always have...is your child getting out of bed after you put him in...if not whats the problem with him just putting himself to sleep when he's tired and what i mean is my daughter goes to bed at the same time every night and spends maybe 30 minutes laying in her bed, talking to her stuffed animals, reading to them and stuff like that and she gradually falls asleep...she sometimes gets out to go potty but within 45 mins of being put in bed shes asleep...personally i do not believe in having a tv or even music in her room because i do not want her becomming dependent on that to fall asleep...thats why we do normal stuff at night, keep the tv on in the living room,we dont sit in total quiet

Sometimes, the quiet keeps them awake. My daughter, two-years-old, has to fall asleep with music or the TV on. Not loud....but just turned up enough that it's not silent! I can't fall asleep to silence, either.

Tell him to watch the ceiling fan or put some glow-in-the dark star stickers on the ceiling for him to look at.
