I find it amusing myself. I weren't tip them anyhow.

I think that having a tip jar at the counter is okay. For exceptional service, I'll put some change in the jar.
What I wish is that the service personnel had to put an anti-tip jar on the counter, which would allow money to be subtracted from their paycheck when they screw up. Sort of a "fine" for not doing their jobs.
I would have loved to have been able to fine the counter person at the mall pizza-by-the-slice place who told me I was "uncool" and "had a bad attitude" because I objected to the loud rap music he had playing in the background, which was shouting out the "f**k" word, while I tried to order pizza for my then-6-year-old daughter.
I would really have enjoyed being able to fine the teen-agers who were all huddled together in the back giggling over something while we customers patiently waited in line for them.
And oh how I would love to be able to fine all the people who take my order for a "plain" hamburger but give it to me with mustard, ketchup, and all the works on it anyway.
Or the person at the drivethru who told me to pull aside and wait for my order, and then apparently forgot I was there until I went into the restaurant to ask what was going on, and got upset because I had them re-do the order because it had gotten cold.
You get the picture: If fast food people want to be tipped, I'm okay with that. But I think that we customers should also be able to take money away from them for screwing up, too.

I operate am very small quick serve tasty freeze with some tables mostly carry out and YES I let my crew put out a tip jar. Most of them are single mothers working for $5.15 per hour and paying a baby sitter so once again I say YES every little helps most of my girls only get about $2 -$5 a day if there lucky all tips are split between the two that are on duty. Don't be so negative what does it hurt to give a few of your coins to a minimum wage employee???

I don't think it's being a cheapie not to leave a tip, but if I frequent a place with a tip jar and usually get excellent service, I'll leave a tip now and again.

i might say Subway and then Quiznos. Sandwhiches that are made with entire grain bread and pile extreme with vegetables. in the experience that your going to McDonald, Burger King or and so on.. attempt the salads with low fat dressing or vingarett. Or get a potatoes somewhat of fries. drop the pop, milk shakes or maybe some juices and get water. maximum of them have fruit and a few have yogurt order the in selection to that burger and fry. possibly it is likewise possible to get grilled chicken or fish and pass away the beef on my own all at the same time. I even heard that Burger king has a Grilled Veggie burger. customarily stay far far off from the fried food. yet i might say cook dinner you very own food that way you recognize how good or undesirable that's good success....

You can put whatever you want on that counter. Does not mean I will participate. Buy a large coke, get a free 2 day old salad. Would you take it? NO. I never tip lazy fast food counter people. They work for at least minimum wage, where as half of waitresses and waiters money comes from tips.

I think they are fine. I give tips to some of them. If the service was really good they'll get a tip. But i don't want it to be going to a department or grocery store next.

I agree with you, I do not tip fast food. I only tip sit down restaurants and thats if they are doing their best, otherwise they get less. I go out once a week with my my fiancee and it's special as i have to get a babysitter for my kids and i expect to get GREAT service as that is the only time i go out and go to a restaurant now. A few times, i got crap service and complained on the restaurants websites and got free dinners because of it.

I agree with you that it is wrong to impose this on anyone. I don't tip or even leave my spare change for them. Also I have found that the people behind the counter that are asking for the tips are rude, not very friendly and do nothing to make want to tip them.

You have the same situation at a bar or bar and grill. Its customary in those situations. The problem I have with fast food tip jars is that I find it presumptuous of surly teenagers to expect anything extra for doing a substandard job.

I don't tip, since they aren't providing me with table service. The fact that they make minimum wage isn't my problem. Most of us start our careers at the low end of the totem pole and then move up in the world as we gain work experience. I don't see the jars as pressure either- I just ignore them.
