People look at you funny, because it's too much.
I'm a Catholic,if I was certain that this money goes to the poor
I wouldn't mind giving all I can.
I had once a client who came to buy a ticket to go to Boston, she
belonged to the family of a priest we knew, she paid that ticket
with one dollar pieces, that's when I started having second thoughts, because no one in that family worked in a place where
you are paid your salary with small change.

What you give is between you and God - ignore the other folks. Your income is a gift from God and she/he asks that you keep 90% of that income. The other 10% is to go toward something that helps others in the name of God. If you choose to give that 10% to your church, then do that. You can break up the 10% however you want. For example, if 10% of your income is $10 per week, you may want to give $5 to your church, $2.50 to a local homeless shelter, and $2.50 to Heifer International. The point is that you give as a joyful response to the blessings God has bestowed upon you. I would suggest you have a conversation with your priest on this subject - you will gain a lot of insight.

There's been a lot of discussions on the subject of tithing, which is supposedly giving back 10 percent of your income to God. The reasoning is that everything you have comes from God, and that your tithing acknowledges the source from whom all your good comes. There are references in the Bible to tithing, but of course back then they usually gave their tithe in lambs and a portion of the harvest. I give what I consider to be tithes, although it's not always 10 percent. My belief is that your giving is between you and God, and not what other people think. They don't know your situation and should not judge. God knows what's in your heart and your intent of giving. If you are giving this money with joy and gladness, then you're ahead of the game.

Read the Bible, especially what Jesus. You shouldnt be going to an organized place such as a Church nor should you be paying what is considered to be "blood money" to that organization either. You should be worshiping in private alone. Learn the Truth that is in the Bible - do not follow along like sheep.

i think you should follow your heart, try to think that what ever you are giving is for the good work of God and not for people then you will know how much to leave. Matt 6:3

You can only be expected to leave what you can afford .
Just try and ignore the funny looks .
If others give more than you they can either afford it or are trying to look clever ,but in fact they are certainly no better than you ,so don't worry.

I leave what i can afford to leave. Sometimes its whatever is in my pocket if i forgot to bring my envelope. Nobody looks at me funny. They should be glad that you're giving money...alot of people at my church don't give a thing.
