first of all how old is the person? My son who was young at the time stuttered. The doctor said it is a nevous tweak leave him alone it will go away. I thought no you are a crazy man. But alas it did go away on its own. I have learned stuttering is a nervous 'tweak'. When one gets nervous they stumble thus stutter. They perhaps feel under pressure to speak and lose all train of thought to what they were saying. I would make my son, stop think about what he said, let his brain proccess the info and then speak. Worked great, good luck.

I dont know anyone who has totally stopped, but I know a couple who have learnt to control it really well. One in particular, my brother, I only hear him stutter about once a year, that rarely, and I used to hear him do it almost every day. He had speach therapy.

The trick is being relaxed and comfortable. Try imagining that you're singing instead of talking.
