XLS is an excel sheet to open it you should have office installed and then run MS Excel and open the attachment in it or right click the attachment and select open with then select excel from the list.

If you can't open it it sounds as if you've got Windows XP and not necessarily Office XP. You can buy Excel on its own but it's more cost effective to buy an OEM version of Office Basic. You only need to purchase a Hard Drive or bit of memory to qualify for OEM pricing. Speak to your local computer shop (not PC World as they're about as useful as a chocolate fireguard).

It is an Excel document. If you have some kind of office suite you should be able to open it.
Try to click (or double click)on the attachement to open it. Check for viruses first

That's a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet file. You need some spreadsheet software to view it. You could try www.openoffice.org which is free and should be able to open it for you (large download though)

.xls is an excel spreadsheet
you need excel to view it. thats on microsoft office.
