Tea comes from a variety of herbs and while it is a plant, per se, the food groups are devoted to a more broad sense of what we need. It's like saying that grass is a vegetable.
Drink tea for the nutrients to help round out your diet. Then, don't worry about where it goes on the pyramid.

Tea is a beverage made from the leaf of a plant but is not considered to be apart of any food group in the pyramid.

Good question- I would have to guess it's not in a food group, but is classified as "other or extras".
