We are perpetually told that Britain (and England in particular) are bairn loving people...and let's face it, when sex cases are blown up in the usual press, 99.9% of us scream our disgust, with most stalking the streets and towns for paedophiliacs - and also paediatricians...just to show us how intellectually sharp we are.
But the NSPCC figures show that the abusers could be not only be hard-pushed families in council estates, but somewhere far different...and not only at Christmas.
Why do we always presume the 'sex cases', 'nonces' and parents who used their bairns as punchbags are in the minority?

It is a subject that many people still find uncomfortable to deal with and people prefer to think that a stranger is going to harm your child than a member of you own family, which is much more likely
