I live in the 4 Corners Area --- NM, CO, AZ,Utah, in the US and my hubby brought home a hitchhiker. He found this guy 10 miles from anywhere. The dog is a well behaved nutered male Golden Retriever with no tags. I've done all I know to do.....placed an ad in the local paper, and contacted animal shelters in 3 states. You can tell from this poor fellows feet he had traveled a good ways and that he at one time had a collar. The problem in this area is we are so remote and have lots of tourist and people lose dogs traveling through from all over the US... I see them in the paper.

Please don't suggest I keep him. I have 5 dogs plus lots of other animals to care for. Any ideas would be helpful. This guy is so sweet I know someone is looking for him.

Is there any way you could try and get him on the news? At this time of year they might have a soft spot for this kind of story. I hope if my dogs ever get lost, somebody like yourself finds them. Did you have him checked for a microchip?

Take him to a vet and have him scanned to see if he hase a chip in him. This will give the owners information. If he isn't chipped, then all you can do is what you have already done.

You can also see about putting the dog on the news. Some local news stations will do a small report about animals that are found, they also do segments to help get animals adopted, at least in my city they do.

If nothing else, you will more than likely receive calls to take the dog if the owner isnt found.

Keep doing what you are doing. If you put him in a shelter, he might get put to sleep. I'm Canadian so I don't know if their is a Humane Society in the States. If you can find one, bring the dog there. They don't put them to sleep, but rather try to find homes for the dog. There is no time limit on the dog's life it it doesn't get adopted.

Ask your vet to scan him for microchips. It's a longshot, but worth trying.

Petfinder.com also has a category for lost and found.
