I was in Germany two years ago and stayed at German hotels (as opposed to Holiday Inn, Sheraton, etc .)
Both had a buffet breakfast that included pancakes, eggs, salad, lunch meats, rolls, coffee, tea, cold cereal, and hot cereal. The rolls and lunch meat were for you to make and take a sandwich for later in the day.

When I travelled over there they served us hard rolls, soft cheese, and a sliced deli meat at the bed and breakfasts. If we stayed in a hotel we had the same and usually cereal Musli cold or hot.

My friend married a German girl, and when he went to visit, they had things like lunchmeat and cheese out for breakfast. He said they looked at him funny when he ate a banana instead of lunchmeat.

I'm only half German (Swedish/German) and I eat whatever I want. But then again, we lived in Sweden for quite a while, so that may be a Swedish thing.
And please don't be silly. We never, EVER eat children. They're entirely too salty.

I agree, children. And like, sausage and potato pancakes I beleive. That's what my dad makes for me when he feels like celebrating our lame German culture... I personally don't care for German food.
