With cold winter air, dogs, not just humans suffer from dry skin. Try putting some olive oil in food or talk to vet about what can help with this problem. My cat has this problem and I was given a spray to put on coat and rub in....maybe this could help with their itching.

I'm looking for answers myself with my lab. He scratches, itches, licks himself constantly. The only thing I ever recall helping was giving him a Benadryl pill that puts him right to sleep. Dogs tend to not be interested to pills given to them, so you should probably take a piece of bread, put some peanut butter on it, put the pill in the peanut butter, and fold the piece of bread in half. It put my lab right to sleep, but it doesn't always work.

They make healthy coat supplements that have vitamin e in them that helpa little. My black lab (70 lbs) is on one Benadryl a day...you may want to ask your vet about dosage for your guys. It helps a lot.
Also a little fish oil or olive oil in their food can help, too...but just a little or you'll have runny poop!!

the more you bathe dogs the dryer their skin gets. there is a medicated spray you can purchase at a Vet or a supply store that will condition their skin to stop the itching and scratching.
or you should check out this website:

Go to Foster and Smith:

Get a supplement to improve your dogs' coat/skin. It will take several weeks to notice any improvement. Also, grass allergies are common among dogs. Do they only scratch after they come in from outdoors?

Everyone has good reccomendations for you. In addition make sure you are not using human shampoo on your little guys. Get a good moisturizing dog shampoo with oatmeal in it.

I would say it's a case of dry skin and there should be some lotions or shampoos that can help.
