I got engaged last night but instead of getting a diamond ring he gave me a white gold wedding band(which I love) . Has anyone else received a wedding band as an engagemnet ring?

Don't get me wrong. I love it because I know what it symbolizes. I was just curious to see if anyone else has ever received a wedding band as an engagement ring.

To be honest I was wanting a diamond what girl doesn't but I love him and want to marry him so that is all that matters. I told him to get me what he can afford. I am going to ask what are we going to do as far as wedding rings when we get married.

No, but that's really kind of cool - like he's imagining totally marrying you already. What a sweetheart! Good luck to you!

I guess all of us ladies can be surprised at how clueless guys can really be about the rings and diamonds that go along with the wedding. Youre probably just going to have 2 different looking wedding bands...I have seen that before.

Thats totally lame and its not an engagement ring. Does he plan to not get you a wedding band when you get married?
The norm is to get a big engagement ring and than for the wedding a wedding band that was made to fit to the engagement ring OR is just a plain matching band. Will you get another plain band at the wedding?
I guess its entirely up to you two, if you're completely satisfied than fine, but personally, this would either show ignorance (doesn't know how things are done), inconsideration/cheapskateness (not someone I would want to marry)... he should at least EXPLAIN the band, why he didn't get you a normal diamond ring, etc. because its obviously something odd and its bothered you enough to post this eventhough you say you love it, its a $300 thoughtless p.o.s.
Guys should want to WOW you AND your friends, your friends will not be impressed by this at all. . And that shows inconsideration to me. This is supposed to be a special time. And I'm not a greedy person, but a teeny diamond solitare on a plain band would make me happy. Alot of guys feel insecure about buying smaller rings and will promise their girl an upgrade when money allows, but if he didn't explain or talk to you, it means he doesn't care what you think and that is a bad start to a marraige/engagement.

OK at the end of the day you are engaged to this man. if you are materialistic then he ain't the type for you. is it possible you will be able to receive a diamond for the wedding? some places you don't get a ring for engagement an some men buy CZ for there woman so look at who got the bad end of the stick.

Yes, i recieved a wedding band as my engagement ring. But me and my fiance both decided on a diamond wedding band. I never wanted a huge three-stone engagement ring for $2000.
Instead i wanted a wedding band that i'll wear as my engagement ring and then later on as my wedding band. We went to Zales and picked one out together about 2 weeks after that he proposed to me in the kitchen of our appartment (not very romantic) but he means everything to me!

We're getting married February 14th

a engagement ring can be anything...a friend of mine got one that was designed especially for her...no diamonds in it at all. If you love it, then all is good. Maybe the wedding band will have the diamonds in it you want:)

From the tone of your question, I don't believe you're really okay with it and if you're going to be married to him start being honest now. If he truly loves you he wouldn't want you to have a ring that you didn't like. Even if he can't afford much, there are less expensive diamonds. There are even less expensive stones. And honestly, why wouldn't he save for this in advance? So, although he may be a little disappointed that he didn't get it right, both of you will be happier in the long run. Good luck.

Not the move I would have made, but as long as you're happy.

I might try to see if you could get a diamond solitaire for your wedding. If you can't afford it, have your jeweler put a CZ in its place until you can replace it with a real diamond. No one will be able to tell - especially if you have a small or moderately-sized stone (.5 to 1.25 cts.)

Hope this helps, and congrats on your engagement!

That sounds a bit backwards but maybe he is planning to surprise you with a diamond ring before the wedding :)

Humm....do you think he may have perhaps gotten it backwards? Maybe he thinks he buys you the diamond for you wedding....its hard to tell though. I got engaged Nov. 30 2006 and he didn't get me a ring at all because he said he didn't want to mess up so we're going ring shopping together.
