GREAT question!
It is not symbolic. But it is also not cannabalism.
Cannabalism is the act of eating a person. The Eucharist contains the body, blood and soul of Jesus, but under the accidents (appearance, physical make-up) of bread and wine. Whenever the miracle of the Eucharist changing into flesh has occurred, it has never NEVER been the practice of consuming that flesh. It was not God's intention for us to "practice cannabalism" as you say, but He did desire a special closeness with us. Please allow me to explain further.
Jesus taught his apostles and his other followers about the mystery of the Eucharist in John 6. He told them, "I am the bread of life." This made them "grumble" amongst themselves and ask questions. Jesus agains confirms, "I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." Again, they argued, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" Does Jesus say, "Relax. It's just symbolic!" No, he confirms what they think he is saying! He says, "I tell you the truth! ....Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my bood has eternal life!.... For my flesh is REAL food and my blood is REAL drink." And then, St. John the Apostle tells us that many of Jesus's disciples hear this and leave Jesus--forever (John 6:66). Again, does Jesus say, "Hey, wait guys! Don't leave! My body is just symbolically bread! You can remain my disciples!" Does he "save" them from turning their backs on him? No, he does not! He does not change this hard teaching to keep his disciples! Instead, almost pathetically, he turns back to his 12 apostles and asks "You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus confirms the true presence of the Holy Eucharist even when it means losing many of his disciples because they find this teaching too difficult to believe.
The Holy Eucharist is a great mystery. One can spend their whole life contemplating why God has chosen to reveal Himself in this way--to belittle himself not only to become man--the Creator making himself a Creature, but to become food for man! Amazing, isn't it? If a mere man proposed this idea, we would think this was blasphemous to God--insulting Him! And yet, because Jesus Himself taught us this, we became silent in absolute awe of His love, mercy and humility.
For me, I recall that St. Paul talks about about the relationship between husband and wife mirrors that of Jesus and His church (Ephesians 5). Although there are many levels to this relationship, we know some things about the marital relationship that points to the mysteries of our relationship with our God through this relationship. One of the greatest expressions of total love and self-giving for a husband is to make love to his wife. In this act, when open to the possibility of new life, the husband gives a part of his very self to the woman, and when recieved by her body, the two can become three (see how this mirrors the mysterious relationship in the Trinity?). The love of a husband for his wife is so strong, that he wants to be as close to her as he can be, for the pure love her well-being, for the desire to care for her, for the desire to be so close to her as to become a very part of her. How much more does our God love us than a husband loves his wife???? In the way the husband gives of his very self in love for the creation of new life in his wife, Jesus gives us of his very self in love in the Holy Eucharist for the creation of new life (spiritually) within our very selves. He wants so much to be close to us, that He wants to become PHYSICALLY a very part of ourselves. He can't become close enough!!!! He wants to be as close to us as possible in every possible way, not only in the age to come, but even here, on Earth! That is the pinnacle of abosolute self-giving, self-sacrificing love that encompasses the teaching and example of Jesus Christ--this is why this sacrament is often referred to as the "Sacrament of Sacraments" within the churches which believe this teaching of Christ.
Thanks for reading and God bless!

The Bible says Jesus is light - is he a literal light. The Bible says The Bible says Jesus is the vine- Is he literally a vine. It calls him the fine Shepard - was he literally the Shepard of sheep. Jesus is the door- is he literally a door. The point is Jesus used many symbol-isms. Even people in Jesus day misunderstood. But his disciple who stuck with his were given the explanation later. Jesus said these shocking things to separate those who truly believed him from those who were following for material advantage. The Idea of his flesh literally becoming bread and wine-blood is Catholic dogma out of harmony with the Bible because Jews and Christians were forbidden to eat blood.

It doesn't. WE are not carving up a human. We are eating a wafer and wine that is tranfigured by the power of the HOly Spirit to be spiritually the body and blood of Christ (or, if you're Protestant, it's just a symbol). There never was any cannabalism in Christianity and you are a sick person for spreading those lies.

Yes the Bread symbolizes Jesus Body which was crucified in our place, and yes the juice symbolizes His Blood which was shed to redeem fallen man from his sins. It is only through repentance and accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior that man may ever enter into the Kingdom of God,

Jesus said for us to "Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me." Then he said This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me."

By taking part in this communion we are remembering what our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ did by shedding His Blood and giving His life on the Cross the we as fallen man may be redeemed back to the Father through Him.

And of those those that hit upon themselves as such, maximum have had intercourse exterior of marriage and lots think of it relatively is high quality. a lot of human beings think of homosexuality is proper too. the two a style of contain very, for sure condemned interior the Bible. there is not any getting around it. If human beings in straightforward terms had intercourse with their marriage buddies, we does not have all of those illnesses and undesirable pregnancies. God's way is terrific. If one's faith is tolerant of such practices, it for sure isn't coaching the Bible appropriately.

That is a very old accusation; well refuted over the centuries.

If you were to go and visit your parish priest, and you saw a picture in his house ... you might ask about that picture and he said "that's my mother"; would you believe that piece of cardboard with photographer's inks etc. was actually his mother? I would think not. Rather, it is just a PICTURE which represents or reminds him of his mother.

Likewise, Jesus was saying the Bread and the Juice are "pictures", "reminders" of His Body and Blood.

Rituals need some sort of symbolism. Why human sacrifice is used in this religion i don't know. I cannot believe that any God really expects humans to be killed as sacrifice, maybe only the darkest and meanest of gods would sacrifice a human as payment for gratification, I have not yet read about this dark god that needs human sacrifice. Only Jehova seems to need these kinds of deeds of his servents to be happy.

The eucharist is a Greek word meaning, "thanksgiving". To partake of the 'blood' and 'flesh' of Jesus meant to be imbued with his presence.

Gross!! Now I know I can't be a Christian,no way could I eat human flesh unless I absolutely had to. Of course I kind of like the taste of blood,so maybe I could just go half way with that.
