You could ask her to experiment with various foods until she finds what she likes. Chemotherapy has a toxic element in it, which throws the body out of kilter, but of course one has it because it is necessary. She could walk about as much as possible, working up an appetite. She definitely needs to eat to maintain her immune system, which chemo lowers. A balanced diet is important. Foods high in fat, especially saturated fat, are harder to digest. Fruit and whole-grain bread may be good. She has to will herself to eat, and be as physically active as possible.

Probably every thing that she eats will taste like metal until she is off the chemo--She needs to be eating high calorie, high protein foods so she can get as much nutrition as possible. People on chemo often lose weight due to the n/v and the bad taste. The one thing we are always told is to make sure she doesn't eat her favorite foods while she is on the chemo--b/c afterwards she will associate it and still be able to taste the metal--and no longer want her favorite foods. If she can at least get an Ensure down a couple times a day this will be good for her.

you know, I don't think anything will taste good for a while. She needs to discuss this w her doctor-- because if she won't have her taste buds back for a while, she can have a stomach tube put in.
