I really have no idea what the Bible says about spanking, but in our house spanking is, and always will be the way. I don't live my life around the Bible as a parent or as a person.

Spare the rod spoil the child does not refer to spanking...the rod was an implement used by shephards to gently nudge their sheep when needed. A shephard would never strike a lamb with a rod. It is about not being a lazy parent and making sure you are there for your children and watching over them at all times. The word discipline should be synonomous with the word disciple...It is a reference to "raising them up in the way that they should go" .so that they "will not depart from it"

Actually, its one of those grey areas. It does say that to love your child means you have to discipline them. Proverbs 13: 24. yYou can certainly make an argument about not spanking, but unfortunately there is no clear cut answer. It all depends on the childs temperment

He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.

it says, you shouldn't have to spank them, because kids should respect they're parent(s)/elder(s)/guardian(s)... unless the parent(s)/elder(s)/guardian(s) are not righteous in their ways... then you all need to go to church... self-discipline is hard to teach, i know, but anything is possible... you can do it... peeeeeeeace...
