Somalia Town Threatens to Behead People Who Don't Pray 5 Times Daily

MOGADISHU, Somalia — Residents of a southern Somalia town who do not pray five times a day will be beheaded, an official said Wednesday, adding the edict will be implemented in three days.

Shops, tea houses and other public places in Bulo Burto, about 124 miles northeast of the capital, Mogadishu, should be closed during prayer time and no one should be on the streets, said Sheik Hussein Barre Rage, the chairman of the town's Islamic court. His court is part of a network backed by armed militiamen that has taken control of much of southern Somalia in recent months, bringing a strict interpretation of Islam that is alien to many Somalis.

Those who do not follow the prayer edict after three days have elapsed, "will definitely be beheaded according to Islamic law," Rage told The Associated Press by phone.

I recognize there are moderate peace loving muslims. But what can be done to stop things like this from happening?

I know! We'll set up a country in the ME that is both peace loving and holds our democratic values and seperation of church and state...... no wait....

Kinda like the Christians in the middle ages who killed non-Christians, huh?

You need to learn to tell the difference between extremists and the rest of the religion. You can't judge all Muslims on the acts of a few who are drunk with power.

This is true Islam. What happens to a country where Islam rules? It been put back to the 7th Century.
This Article shows again how dangerous Islam really is and how it threatens our democratic life in the west.

Muslims insist that some of the Sahih ('reliable') Hadiths are actually not reliable at all but at the same time not recognizing the problems this poses for the claim that Sharia is the only valid legal system, as the Sharia laws are based for a big part on those Sahih Hadith collections.

Its hard to bear, to see the suffering of these people. But the only reaction on Islamic side will be "How sad, this is not Islam, Islam is a very peaceful Religion."

Is what is happening there related to the religion or to years of bloody civil war.
It is another lawless failed country with people fighting to the death over very meagre resources. The Union of Islamic Courts has apparently won in their fighting for control of the city over the 5 remaining warlords and their supporters obviously intend to have things their way now. This will include forced observation of Islam and Fundamentalist Sharia law. Their position is shaky so expect them to continue killing and possibly include ethnic cleansing in the program.

Yes they are such a peaceful lot aren't they.

I saw a CIA report from 1946 (before Israel) that identified them as the second threat biggest threat right after the Soviet Union. I guess when the CIA has a war budget and support they can get it right.

I love the answer right above me. Missed the whole off with their head thing completely!

I am not really sure what to answer you...
All Muslims have and should pray 5 times daily, it not really a big task only 5 Min's per pray 5*5=25 Min's of 24 hours, so only 25 Min's out of 24 hours would really affect something?
