I'm always right

There are those that take the R & S opportunity to grandstand and prosletize.

Then there are those who ask an honest question hoping to get some understanding from various religious and spiritual sources.

There are also those who attempt to make a mockery of the site by asking silly innane questions in hopes to stir the pot and create flame wars.

Then there are people like me. I come to the site to read the various answers and marvel at the 360 of opinion out there. When it comes to religion and spirituality, it does look quite the mess. Not much basic tolerance and compassion being expressed here. Along with that...

I sometimes post questions that I believe will stimulate lively conversation and active, intellectual debate on the subject. And when I answer a question, I try to give a well thought out and reasonable answer. In both cases I'm sometimes successful and sometimes a failure.

The place really is a mixed bag and quite the reflection of people and beliefs. Fascinating stuff.

Forgive me. I'm not sure how you can attempt to be right in answering a question without understanding the question. I would say the two things necessarily go together.

Oh wait, you said ASK a question...my bad. I think i usually ask a question to stimulate someone to think and guide them to the answer I think is right...honestly.

I probably come across as though I'm trying to be right. But in reality, when this happens, I am usually asking the question to try to get people to think about a commonly held belief or practice that doesn't make a lot of sense. That doesn't mean they actually do think about it, though.

Plus, I sometimes like to play devil's advocate with my own beliefs sometimes--not something I typically do in real life, but I like to do it online. It's funny to see how people react sometimes.

It totally depends on the question. I seek to do different things, depending. What comes to mind is: help, comfort, be witty, enlighten, learn.

I try to help and comfort others of all religions but probably especially atheists and agnostics. I try to be witty with a snarky question or enlighten them if I think there is a chance. I also try to learn. Primarily on here I've learned things about Wicca and Islam.

I don't ask questions. But overall it seems most people ask in order to get a certain response. Certain Christians do it to get an Amen. Some Atheists do it to get another Atheist to respond in a way they would agree. Seems this place is more about points than anything else.

When I used to ask questions (I don't anymore because the Christians kept reporting them for abuse... :), I would leave them open-ended, and simply ask something that would force people of faith to really scrutinize their faith.

I was never looking to be right, nor was I looking for a right answer. I just wanted to make people THINK. Converting them to "my side" is not the goal. Anyone that thinks, will eventually come to my side. And that's the battle.

Little bit of both. Sometimes it's one or the other. Other times it's a combination of the two.
And still other times, it's neither. I'm simply trying to make a point.
Sometimes people miss it.

When I ask I am motivate by three reasons. One, I want to know the mind of others. Second, I want to point out something, Third I am looking for answers.

I like to learn and find out what other people are about. If I have knowledge about something that some one asks about , I'm more than glad to share it.
