What does the Bible say that helps us to understand what the soul is?

Gen. 2:7: "God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul." (Notice that this does not say that man was given a soul but that he became a soul, a living person.) (The part of the Hebrew word here rendered "soul" is ne´phesh. KJ, AS, and Dy agree with that rendering. RS, JB, NAB read "being." NE says "creature." Kx reads "person.")

1 Cor. 15:45: "It is even so written: 'The first man Adam became a living soul.' The last Adam became a life-giving spirit." (So the Christian Greek Scriptures agree with the Hebrew Scriptures as to what the soul is.) (The Greek word here translated "soul" is the accusative case of psy·khe´. KJ, AS, Dy, JB, NAB, and Kx also read "soul." RS, NE, and TEV say "being.")

1 Pet. 3:20: "In Noah's days . . . a few people, that is, eight souls, were carried safely through the water." (The Greek word here translated "souls" is psy·khai´, the plural form of psy·khe´. KJ, AS, Dy, and Kx also read "souls." JB and TEV say "people"; RS, NE, and NAB use "persons.")

Lev. 24:17, 18: "In case a man strikes any soul [Hebrew, ne´phesh] of mankind fatally, he should be put to death without fail. And the fatal striker of the soul [Hebrew, ne´phesh] of a domestic animal should make compensation for it, soul for soul." (Notice that the same Hebrew word for soul is applied to both mankind and animals.)

The voice of the Devil.
All Bibles or sacred codes have been the causes of the following Errors.
1. That Man has two real existing principles Viz: a Body & a Soul.
2. That Energy, call'd Evil, is alone from the Body, & that Reason, call'd Good, is alone from the Soul.
3. That God will torment Man in Eternity for following his Energies.

But the following Contraries to these are True

1. Man has no Body distinct from his Soul for that call'd Body is a portion of Soul discern'd by the five Senses, the chief inlets of Soul in this age
2. Energy is the only life and is from the Body and Reason is the bound or outward circumference of Energy.
3 Energy is Eternal Delight

To what I know, the body is an extension of the soul and the mind is the concious body of the soul. The soul is a person, the body and the mind are simply tools.

"If we divide the tip of a hair into a hundred parts and then take one of these parts and divide it again into a hundred parts, that very fine division is the size of one of the numberless living entities. they are all cit-kana, particles of spirit, not matter." SB 10.87.31

"The individual soul is unbreakable and insoluble, and can be neither burned nor dried. He is everlasting, present everywhere, unchangeable , immovable and eternally the same." Bg2.24

"For the soul there is neither birth nor death at any time. He has not come into being, does not come into being, and will not come into being. He is unborn, eternal, ever-existing and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain." Bg 2.20

The conditional soul is covered by the material body (physical) and by subtle bodies (mind, intelligence and false ego).

God created man out of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man BECAME a living soul. (Gen. 2:7) God did not put a soul into man.

The body returns to the dust and the Spirit returns to God. (Eccl. 12:7) The Bible does not say the SOUL returns to God.

The Spirit is the same as God's breath of life or His power. (Job 27:3)

When the breath or Spirit returns to God, the thoughts perish.
(Psalm 146:3,4)

The human being is established(constituted) of spiritual eternal and of perishable material(subject).
The spirit is the alive spiritual pit(core).
The soul is the result of several envelopes of finer material(subject) which are not visible on earth (ground),use to wrap the Spirit
You can see an envelope of the soul in your dreams. (Astral body)
because you are in beyond whom is different for each of you.
The clairvoyant perceive on earth the soul.
After your dead in beyond you have for body (envelope) all the envelopes which compose the soul.
All the thought forms are activated in the soul, during your ground life and after the death.
The physical body remain on earth.

its what makes you feel things As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back.

Don't be afraid that your life will end,
be afraid that it will never begin

Your soul is your true self;...Your true body. This flesh body is only a temporary vessel made of dirt/clay that holds your soul/self while you go through this earth age of man.

It is usually said to be where your consciousness, thoughts, and personality reside. It could be considered as synonymous with the mind. Some cultures think it is seated in the brain, others in the electomagnetic aura said to surround the body, others say it is in the stomach area, possibly the solar plexus (or sub-brain).

The soul is you.
You are a soul.
Note Genesis 1:27 ....man BECAME a living soul.
It doesn't say man was given a living soul.
Therefore, a soul is what we are, not what we have.
That's why years ago, upon arriving in a town, there would be a sign saying 'Welcome to ....., population 5,000 SOULS."
Meaning people.
When we die, it is the soul that dies ...since we ARE a soul.
The soul can die ....Ezekial 18:4.
