Disconnect the car battery for about 30 minutes. but most likely the light will come back ON again. You can also remove the light bulb. You can find the service manual in Nissanhelp.com

The fix sounds simple enough, just buy a new gas cap, and wait for fifty or better key starts for it to put it's self out. Or you could just go to a local mechanic with a Snap-on scanner and have them verify the code, and turn it out for you. You can't turn the light off without a scanner, or factory scan tool. And if you leave the light on, you won't know when something else goes wrong with your vehicle.

My corsica had the same problem but it was the sensor not the cap being lose. To reset the light unplug the battery for 5 minutes. then replug the battery and start car if the light stays off it was a loose gas cap if it comes on you'll have two choices put up with it or get the sensor fixed.

If you aren't going to fix the issue, pull the instrument cluster and take the bulb out. It's not going to light up any differently for future problems anyway. And I assume you could care less if it did.

But unless you plan on taking the bulb out yourself, it'd be cheaper to have the seal repaired. You're eventually going to destroy the fuel pump anyway by not fixing it, so you might as well.

Oh, black electrical tape works well to cover it up.
