I had successful VATS surgery for early stage lung cancer five weeks ago. My arm, side and right breast are completely numb and extremely painful. I am unable to put my arm down to my side and must hold it out at a right angle to my body in order to get any relief.Pain pills do not help. I also have a great deal of pain in my upper back. My doctor says the nerves will repair themselves in time. How much time does it take? I can't take this much longer.

this repair timing is unpredictable, talk to your doctor about lidocaine jelly, lyrica, TCA's, nerve blocks, or pain clinic referrals, these are all helpful ideas, hope you feel better soon, good luck

This pain is normal. Take some acetominophen for pain relief. If this goes on for more than 5 days, you need to contact your dentist. The nerve ending was severed when the tooth was extracted, so it would heal at the base.
