I say Happy Holidays, because there are so many holidays in December, including my own birthday! Those who have a problem with it obviously only know of that one Christ-related holiday, which is a ripoff of an old pagan holy day, anyhow. Have a good Yule!

I don't have any problem with Christians saying "Merry Christmas" as long as it's not (as it IS, sometimes) an agressive, and sometimes hostile, challenge.
It really WOULD behe compassionate, kindhearted and generous thing to wish people an appropriate greeting for *their* holiday, but I don't expect that. So "Happy Holidays" is better than guessing wrong.
But what I want to know is, what IS it about saying "Merry Christmas" for a month ahead of time?
I don't say 'Happy Hanukkah" to my Jewish friends starting two weeks in advance. I make a point of saying it DURING Hanukkah.
And no way will I say "Merry Christmas" to anyone until December 24th or 25th.
BTW, when people DO use that tone with me, I reply either with "And a Happy Solstice to you!' with a bright smile, or I look confused, and ask "Is it December 25th already???"

It is fine and no problem but it has gone too damn far...people are now "intolerant" if they actually say Merry Christmas or Happy Chuanuka.
If a Christian says Merry Christmas to me (I am not christian) then where is the insult? Where is the intolerance? They are wishing me a merry time during their religion's holiday. I have no problem with that as well since I am also ok with walking 5 feet away and having a Jew wish me a Happy Chuanuka. Both are giving me their best wishes.
If a TV station says Merry Christmas then who cares? Why would the guy sitting at home be bothered? People need to relax on the whole PC thing

Here's an even better idea - ignore the religious aspects of December (don't we do that for everyone else's religion the other 11 months of the year?) and just wish everyone to have a nice day, like we always do. I say we put up a war on the war on Christmas. Maybe if we make the point moot, people will stop bickering.
Personally, I'm going to wish anyone who wishes me a Happy Holidays to have a happy holidays themselves. If they wish me a Merry Christmas, I'm going to wish them a Happy Sol Invictus - see if they catch on.

Nothing wrong with it. What they're ticked off about is that people want them to quit saying Merry Christmas. The whole argument is silly. But what is truly amusing is that so many claiming that Walmart and Target and all these other stores are telling their employees not to say Merry Christmas. Yet, every time I go to any of them, they all say it.
It's painfully obvious the holidays bring out the hypocrites in force. They were screaming just over a month ago that they didn't want any Pagan holidays to be celebrated (Halloween), but it's not fair if someone tells them not to say Merry Christmas. *Sigh* I don't care what they say, just get the hell outta my way so I finish this damn shopping. *wink*

The problem is not in saying Happy Holiday the problem is trying to replace Merry Christmas with Happy Holiday in order for merchants to avoid insulting the patrons. It appears they have insulted more with their silly attempt to replace Merry Christmas. I understand Wall Mart has switched back to Merry Christmas this year. Thank God this Atheist enjoys Christmas.

I don't care about the whole happy holidays issue. I just think it's stupid. I grew up with Christmas so if u don't like it I don't really care. Merry Christmas yall. Yes I am half atheist but I still think it would be fun to have one special day of giving. Having every single day being ordenary to me just seems really boring.

not a thing
and no one ever said we can't say "merry christmas". It's the stores prerogative if they'd prefer to avoid endorsing a single winter holiday. Then again I'd love it if every cashier had to say "Merry Christmas-happy Hanuka-happy Kwanzaa-happy new year-whatever others I'm forgetting" to every customer

I agree with Bob. There is nothing wrong with saying Happy Holidays but there is something very wrong with being told you cant say Merry Christmas.
