I have horrible insomnia i have all my life. I find the best cure for my insomnia is not legal. So most day i try a few other things sometimes ill eat a healthy snack before bed like some fruit or yougart cause you shouldnt eat anything to heavy before bed or a cup of tea. Takin time to do this your body relaxes. and its possible to sleep. Also meditation can help. I know it sounds weird but try it lay on ur bed in ur most comfortable postion. close your eyes and picture yourself some were beatuiful a beach a moantian top. whatever and start deep breathing and in your mind look around its just you and the scenery. do this for a bout 10 min it usally works pretty good. Also when u enter your bedroom think of nothing but recreation and happyness. NO BILLS NO CLASSES NO RELATIONSHIP PROBLEMS. nothin like that otherwise your mind will not shut off. Best of luck to you. Remebmer to relax lifes goes way to fast to not enjoy it.

first cutout the tv your over stimulating yourself find a book to read some little destressing stretches might start by putting arms out straight to the sides and just strectch out as far as they will go the relax and kinda roll them not briskly though, slowly and gently it helps to loosen the muscles and what time do you go to the gym?if its to close to bedtime that could be the problem try working out earlier everyone is different in the amount of time it takes them to come down from their workout high

Well, I don't know about 'forcing' yourself to sleep, but I've heard it is true that if you just lie in bed doing nothing then although it's not as good as sleeping, you are at least getting some rest.
I also read somewhere that you sleep better if you don't watch TV in bed.

Sometimes I get some milk. Sometimes if my mind is thinking about something, I write it down so I see it in the morning and not think about it anymore. Masturbation and/or sex usually helps as well.
Do you drink coffee or lots of caffienated drinks? If you do, you may want to try not having any after lunch time or so.

I agree with your friend. Get up and do something. Just not something that is going to be exciting or you could get a second wind. Try and do something boring. Maybe some sleepy time tea.. really its out there, and it helps relax you and make you sleepy.

there is no set rule but its usually better to get up and do something relaxing or boring. until you get sleepy. warm milk sometimes helps or an herbal caffeine free tea. there are some that are made to help you sleep. dont' do anything that will get you thinking too much.

A hot bath and warm milk with honey. It could be that you are going to the gym too soon before bed. Try changing your habits.
