Out of obedience to Allah, subhana wa ta'ala. This is out of hope and fear/awe/respect. Hope in the rewards of the hereafter and in this life, and fear of the punishment.

I have hopes for the benefits Allah mentioned:

" That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. ..."

So I hope to be known as a free, respectable woman and I hope to not be annoyed. Wearing hijab has already done WONDERS in preventing all the annoying glances, stares, drooling, and advances by strangers approaching me in places like the grocery store, etc.

I also cover my face, because I do believe it is obligatory after my research. When the verse was revealed, this is what the women did, they covered the face. That tells me quite plainly that they understood it to mean to cover the face as part of what hijab is. After all, they are not allowed to be extreme and hear a verse and then do more. Like when the revelation was given to make 4 rakat dhuhr salat, imagine a hadith saying that upon hearing it, they made 5 rakat. So, I take it very seriously that this is how the women responded when the verse was revealed. And it WASNT just Muhammad's sallallahu aleihi wa sallam's wives.

I found that when I went from showing my face, to covering it, it went MUCH FURTHER in preventing unwanted flirting and social approaches by men.

Regardless of what a woman believes is fard, being identified as a Muslim is also very important, because: "Whosoever resembles a people is one of them."
