Don't worry dude, the solution is quite simple.
If the copied CD contains exactly the same matter as the original CD, then putting real CD's serial no. will make it genuine and if the CD matter has been altered, then i am also quite sure that it will work fine like many other pirated CD's found in the street. The only thing will be that the windows won't be genuine, which you can check my installing Internet explorer 7 from http://www.microsoft.com/ . If it installs then Windows is genuine and if not, who cares, at least Windows will work fine for various purposes.
So there's no danger of your computer crashing later on due to this serial stuff.

Nothing will happend. Sure The Windows will become genuine, under one condition : The Serial number's never been used before or already registered/actived with the same PC you use. And to make sure if your windows's genuine, try to activate it. If the activation's success then your windows's genuine.

But in several of pirated CD, the Windows original serial number won't work. The pirated CD only accept the pirated serial number. This was because of the regional code in every country.

And back to your question. Why do you have to install a genuine Serial number with pirated CD ?

PS : I'm doing this way when my customer lost his origianl CD. So I use Pirated CD and install it with origianl CD and go for activation to check it. And it's 100% worked. the windows become Genuine.

Fell free to contact me ^_^

When you say pirated CD do you mean that your buddy made a copy of his or you came across it on the "street?" If you buddy made you a copy then you should be ok and it will work as long as your CD Key is valid. Once you enter that key the software becomes valid. It is the license CD Key) that makes it valid, not so much the software. However, if the pirated software has been modified then you might run into problems. If you have a valid Key, have one of your buddies burn you a copy of the XP Pro CD and don't worry about it. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure about earlier versions but when the computer shop assistant tried to install Windows XP to reformat my pc he couldn't install without the product key number that came with the original CD borrowed from a friend ( that came with her laptop). Because I don't have the original CD that came with my OEM pc I wanted to use my friend's installation CD but wanted to use my original product key number. It didn't work. So I used my my friend's number. It worked after that. But when I tried to install Windows Defender I had to have my pc validated by Microsoft. After the validation, somehow my original number was restored in the system information in the control panel... Hope this helps. May I suggest you buy an original CD. From my experience there is so much to gain from having an original operating system.

effectively YES, that is basically what windows has you do anyways. If your OS fails the genuine advantage tool it prompts you to install with a valid key, and takes you to a site where you can purchase a genuine key. Now keep in mind that if the Pirated copy was altered you may still not have a full version oor you could have a bad file somewhere in the OS, its always best that if you have a valid, genuine product key to also install a valid, genuine version.

You end up with a REAL Pirated copy of Windows XP Professional.

No. There's a new tool on the market called Windows Genuine Advantage that is installed through Windows Update. The software phones home every one in a hile and checks to see if the copy of Windows is vail, and if it isn't it then takes you throught the steps to make it legal.

That should work fine - The CDs are not usually copy protected, but rely upon the serial number.

It is not a matter of being genuine, it is a matter of being legal. A product ID will work on any computer, but you are only permitted to use it on one computer at a time.

So, your answer is: Yes and no.

Yes it is genuine if the original computer it was first installled on is no longer being used.

In all other circumstances, even tho the computer will accept it, it is not a legal, genuine installation.
