Good reasons? No. But there is fear of the unknown, family of origin problems (generational racism...my grandparents were terrible racists!)...

But "stupidity" covers 99% if it.

Yes. In order to keep the poor servants and poor slaves divided so they would not rise up against the powers that be, early colonial powers worked hard to establish a racial divide.

Divide and repress.

Still goes on today in the Southern US where poor white people vote Republican because they don't like black people/gays/whatnot.

Humans seem to be hardwired to be tribal - basically, pack animals.

Our first survival instinct is for self-preservation, then our own family (gotta keep those genomes safe), then the pack, or tribe.

Reason and compassion ought to be able to overcome or counteract that, but it doesn't in every case. And the fact that there are people framing the dialog in terms of "us vs. them" just reinforces our pack behavior.

The Noble Qur'an - Faatir 35:28

Yes, not knowing someone personally who is a different race, culture, or religion. One can easily make judgments when they don't know anything about the group they are judging.

hate is handed down- everyone who hates is taught to hate in some way. fear is the root cause.

stupidity is a mean way of saying ignorant. i believe we all have goodness inside, for some it is covered up by pain.
