Parakeets like this are omnivorous and will eat almost anything you give them. The main things to avoid are dairy products like cheese or butter because of the fat content . Also chocolate is a no-no because of the fat content. Avocado is a food to avoid at all costs.
They will eat any other fruit as part of their everyday diet, also vegetables are very good for them. Meat can be given in small amounts so long as it is low in fat. In the wild parakeets do scavenge on dead bodies and enjoy the high protien of meat.
Avoid highly salted things like potato crisps Raw potato should not be fed because if it is left to go green is contains deadly poison. The do like a cooked chicken drumstick bone to chew on and split to take the marrow.
A good seed mixture is esential for a healthy diet.
Some calcium in the form of crushed oyster shell will help, iodine blocks inthe cage help to promote healthy feather growth after the moult.

She can have anything you eat except:
Avocado, alcohol, caffine and choclate, mushrooms, some say rhubarb and parsley are toxic.

Cooked potatoes only, not raw, no fat/oil or too much salt they are lactose intolerant so only hard cheese sometimes.

She can share your breakfast cereal without the sugar and milk. Any fruits and veggies, cooked chicken and bones, a bit of pellets and a bit of seed. Chillies are a favourite and good for them.

She can share you food without sauces, butters or too much salt. Rice, veggies, pasta meat etc. I dont know what you like to eat.

Unsalted popcorn, crust with peanut butter, scrambled or boiled eggs - not fried etc are treats. My ring necks also love meal worms. They love big bits of apple and whole corn. Peanuts and nuts but not too much because of oil.

Potatoes, Meats, Starch foods, any salty foods, gassy Foods due to lack of "farting" abilities, Easy on the Sunflower Seeds, Fruits are okay, but not a lot. Whole Grain Bread Crumbs are okay. Some birds are lactose intolerant, so careful.

Our Ringneck will eat anything we put in front of him. We avoid foods that can be outright harmful such as Avocadoes, onions and chocolates. Anything that has any “drug” related effect or could also be bad for our own health, such as caffeine, salt and fats for instance, should be avoided.

Ours enjoys drinking with us as well so we avoid anything too hot or carbonated as well as caffeine and of course, alcohol. I’ve seen and heard of birds reacting in a variety of ways to dairy. Some show no affects while others get ill. We usually avoid pure dairy, such as milk, but have fed ours foods with moderate amounts of dairy cooked in such as mashed potatoes, without any ill effects.

As with any food, moderation is essential. Too much of any one food will cause health problems.

Definately no avocado, chocolate, rhubarb or apple seeds. Coffee or sodas, although your bird will likely love them, isn't good but not deadly.

On the other hand my birds love Cheezits. They can tell the difference between generic cheezits, Cheese Nips and real Cheezits (even mixed together). They'll ignore any but the Cheezits unless they use them as frisbees.

I have 1 bird who goes nuts for fried shrimp tail after you've eaten the shrimp body. He enjoys the little bit that's still attached to the tail.

You should look for dove seed- that's what I've always fed the birds at work that come in. I believe they also need grit to digest their food as well. Honestly...you should have looked this up *before* you bought the birds.
