Deuteronomy 22:28-29 A rapist must buy his victim from her father for 50 shekels. Is this supposed to be some type of retribution? What about the victim here, what if she doesn’t want to marry a pig who raped her? All that matters is her father receives payment for his “property”.

could someone explain me please?

Her father need to be paid for his effort on raising her.

A 'you break it, you buy it' policy was applied.

The rap;ist also had to take care of her for the rest of his life, a lifetime sentence. It's a very cruel sentence, for the rapist.

As for the virgin without a fiance who was raped.

Well, if she want to get married, she better take what she can get.

If she doesn’t want to marry her rapist? Well then, I guess he's off the hook then. The marriage assure that she has a caretaker and he is responsible for her.

50 shekels is probably around 500 USD.

This reflects the attitude of the times. Women were property in most if not all cultures of that era. Religious writings and beliefs, even if they weren't the source of these attitudes, allowed these attitudes to continue. We MUST realize this, because even today there are serious issues about women's rights versus religion. Notice that it is religion which Christian fundamentalists cite when trying to deny women control of tgeir own fertility, or to force women to "be sumissive" in marriage and to not work outside the home. Note that some denominations STILL do not allow women to become clergy of high rank. We have to admit the illness exists before we can take steps towards curing it.

50 shekels I'm staying away from there barely enough left out of a groat to get drunk and brag about it down the pub. Dishwashers are cheaper than that where I come from

I will ask a bible scholar friend of mine. It's certainly strange. What I want to know is, with inflation taken into account, what is 50 shekels nowadays?

The woman would never have been able to marry after being raped. Fortunately we live under a new covenant now and the new testament is a lot easier to live under.

That is why I stop reading those contradicted and multi interpreted scriptures and embraced the Srimad Bhagavatam and Bhagavad Gita As It Is... that speak about the True of any subject in a straight and easy language, that anyone can understand and don't lead to speculations.

God gives great value to women as recorded in Scripture;

Deborah was a judge raised up by God in a time of great distress for Israel.

Mary was chosen to bear God's own Son! What an honor.

Esther was used by God to save the entire nation of Israel from destruction .

Read the the entire Scriptures....instead of quoting one foolish refernce to support your ignorance.

Intelligent people understand what the Scripture really says.

This is completely wrong. The value of a woman is at least 6 camels, maybe even 7. It depends (a) how good looking she is and, (b) her cooking and cleaning skills and (c) if she can use a plough.

It is other people's religion and culture and if they want to live that way that is their choice. They don't have the same principles or morals that we do. We cannot force the whole world to behave and think as we do. That would be wrong as well.

But I do agree with you. It is quite a barbaric law. Are you sure sure it is still in force? The Shekel is used in Israel.
