U could argue his not a fair god in letting innocents be tortued and hurt.

And its not in the bible i've read it - very historically inaccurate, but ok in places. I prefer the animated version on TV.

Hey you, You know the rules of the game. No using logic in a religious debate. For some odd reason The believers get very cranky when you do that one.

Free will is a gift given to us all from God and not even he will violate that. Unfortunately there are people who want to do the most evil things with that free will, but how is that His fault? He does not intervene unless someone prays and asks him. So you should pray for your loved ones everyday then he can step in and prevent these things.
It's not that he doesn't care because he does very much but he is totally fair at the same time. He doesn't violate the rapist's free will no more than he violates the free will of someone telling a "white lie." Otherwise we would all be like robots with no will.

In response to your question, I'd have to say that "God's" system is flawed. He is not necessarily "always" almighty. God gave us the right of FREE WILL, basically meaning we can CHOOSE to be GOOD, or be EVIL (the devil controlling this of course). So, he is still all powerful, yet he allows us to be INFLUENCED by evil, so, those who are "weaker" will fall into the traps of the devil/evil, and do just that... evil things. So, this world is and will always be so very far from perfect because god in a way "allows us (by our own choice/free will)" to not be like him.

Btw, in response to the first answer by latinatexas... Not everything is in the bible. Bible beaters truly believe that everything, including, well, everything is in the bible. Not true at all. There isn't, nor will there ever be--unless someone edits the bible--anything about pedophiles, nor about gays, nor about rapists. These things were very "foreign" to people in the time of christ. Gay people (though probably more hidden back then) did not exist, and pedophiles, well, as far as we know, they as well might have been around back then, but there are no records or supporting evidence to this fact, except of course in Rome and Greece during the Roman empire and rules od Macedonia where gaiety and child-sex was seen as recreation rather than utter sickness as we all do today. So, latina, you can see why you have ZERO "best answers" out of your 90 or so answers, because they are short, NOT to the point, and mostly false statements. Try looking up your answers first if you don't know them off the top of your head.

Good question btw.

God values free will of all equally those that believe in Him and those that don't that's what makes it "free" - you are free to chose to do good and free to do evil but know that evil doers will be judged at some point, this life or the next, but they will stand before Him
sometimes God will allow for ppl to go through something to bring an unbeliever to Him and sometimes He will have a believer go through something to "stretch" that person - new experiences produces new qualities in a person that God may want that person to have - it happens all the time when someone has a terrible experience and they find God or that experience puts that persons life on a new track that they would have never before even considered -
well couldn't God have come up with a better way - why must we suffer to learn something -
In a perfect world that would be possible but in our fallen world God must use what He can to get His message and will brought into this world

Satan and his minions -human and demonic- are solely responsible for evil, death and sin. We live in the Age of Grace, which means that God is patiently waiting for all who are willing to, to repent and accept Jesus Christ as Lord. Satan and mankind brought sin/crime into the world and are thus the ones responsible for all of it and those who commit the act will eventually account for it. God gave us commandments to follow; commandments which deal with man's relationship to God and man's relationship to man. He also provided penalties for breaking those laws. Since we don't live under the theocracy of the Almighty, as the Israelites once did, it is the State's reponsibility to punish all offenders according to God's Word. When the Israelites lived under a theocracy, God personally intervened and punished the evil doers. We can see, by a reading of the OT, that even though God did personally punish evildoers the people still disobeyed God's laws. Even though they saw God's strength through miracle after miracle, they still broke God's laws. The next time that God personally intervenes will be when time and this world have come to an end. Besides, if what you suggest -God stopping all evil and personally punishing the offenders- actually took place today, there'd be NO ONE able to stand before Him because all have sinned and fall short of God's glory and the wages of sin is death. You are focusing the blame for these atrocious acts on the wrong Individual. You should be asking, Why doesn't our government(s) properly punish these evil doers? Why doesn't our government(s) compel restitution from offenders who commit crimes such as robbery and theft and fraud? Why doesn't our government(s) execute all rapists, child molesters and murderers as the Bible commands them to do? We are now seeing exactly how ugly sin really is!
Hello, ebayphil, read the Bible again -if in fact you've read it at all. Those things you mentioned as not being in the Bible are in the Bible. God commands such individuals -rapists and murders and kidnappers etc- be put to death. Homosexuals and lesbians are also mentioned in the Bible and are called perverse, unnatural, full of uncontrollable lusts and an abomination to the Lord.

Apparently he values them equally. Personally, if I were god, I’d just smite the murderers and rapists right where they stand with a lightning bolt. That way, I’m not violating free will and I am still protecting the innocent. I would do it right before they committed the atrocity, since I’m god and I know and see all. I would know whether or not they would have repented and all that too.

The suffering in the world is because as the Bible says, it is Satan that is the ruler of the world. (John 14:30)
In the Bible, God tells us how we can avoid much suffering. He has provided the very best counsel on living. When applied, this safeguards us against practices that can bring much needless physical suffering. If we ignore that help, is it fair to blame God for the trouble we bring upon ourselves and others?
God has made provision to END all suffering. He created Adam and Eve perfect, and made every provision so that life would be pleasant for them. When they turned their backs on God, was God obliged to intervene so as to shield their children from the effects of what the parents had done? Parents have responsibilities. The attitudes and actions of parents affect their children. Nevertheless, God, as an expression of undeserved kindness, sent his own dearly loved Son to earth to lay down his life as a ransom. As a result, the opportunity is open to people to have what Adam lost, perfect human life, free from suffering.
Why has God allowed suffering to continue so long?
"Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with you because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance." (2 Peter 3:9) If God had immediately executed Adam and Eve, following their sin, none of us would be in existance today. Moreover, had God at some later time destroyed all who were sinners, we would not have been born. The fact that God has allowed this sinful world to exist until now has afforded us the opportunity to be alive and learn his ways, to make needed changes in our lives. This shows great love on his part. The Bible shows that God has a set time to destroy the wicked and will do so soon.

God seeks to intervene in the lives of people. There are oppertunities and stop gaps along the path of life where people could alter their choices, but our human arrogance and lust of our own desires get in the way.

God could intervene more directly, but the rules of the game were set up long ago. I don;t think that God want to change people, but rather to transform lives. There is a difference.

You are asking a question that has caused wars, broken up families, and been asked since man could think. Since you did ask, in my opinion, NO, there is not one ominant being. We are all from one source of energy, and energy never dies, it just changes form. Our memories do go on. This is just a short learning experience here. Every hurt, pain, joy, taste, laugh, touch, vision, thought and emotion is for a reason. You must learn here. Learn to enjoy the wonder all around us, and take those memories and that knowledge with you. Hard to believe? So is a god that would care more about if a football team wins than 200,000 people dying in a sunami. The world is science and someday everyone will accept that. Many years from now. (ifwe dont blow up the world first. )

Well because at the end of the day we are our own personal Jesus so only we have the power to destroy ourselves or to bring joy to others. Maybe one day God will decide that's enuf even for him but till then, humans have to bare some taste of how hell is also. Of course i can't imagine how can ppl be so evil and kill one another, rape or sexual abuse an Innocent child. I would personally fry them but i would become a monster just like them. So its good to believe in a greater punishment that they'll receive after death. But till then ppl and media should do more against this freaks of nature. And usually ppl tend to blame God for all this things(because He's all mighty and powerful)rather face reality and do something abt it. Of course this kind of experience can kill your soul or the human part of you, but is still hope the one feeling that makes us go on.
