is a rice cooker and a crockpot/slow cooker the same thing?

I have a rice cooker that my mother in law gave us, and i have never used it. Its not in a package, so i don't know if i could use it for something else. Its just something that she didn't want any more and guessed that we could probably use it.

Rice cookers will have a high output of 1000-1500 watts they need to actively boil the rice before they click down to the low setting. The low setting on the rice cooker (about 400 watts) is still much too powerful to use as a slow cooker,

Crockpots/slow cookers only heat at about 200 watts. They will only barely simmer a full pot. Low setting is about 100 watts just enough to keep something warm.

No. Your rice cooker doesn't work like a normal crockpot; it works by sensing moisture. Crockpots are basically low-temperature hotplates, but you can set that temperature and it will stay on until you turn it off.

Rice cookers are great for rice, though. Frees up a burner on the stove and you don't have to watch it.
