I am writing this request on behalf of the Native American children of all ages in Thoreau, NM. We want Mr. Jordan to come out to Thoreau to motivate us and put on presentation for our community. Thoreau population is 2,000. I want to ask him if he can donate some sports equipment such as basketballs, soccers, goals, nike shoes and words of encouragement to our youngster, who will appreciate his appearance in person. Let me know if this is possible. Mr. Jordan can make a lot of difference in their lives. Our children have no where to go to play nor have a recreation center to play. Please help us.

As Triton said, perhaps you should concentrate on education rather than recreation. In fact, you might find that this will be something that Michael Jordan's publicist might ask first.
So, if you already have education plotted, you should definitely point that out - show them your school's academic plan, what the school has accomplished with the students as far as education and where they stand academically with each grade. You can even do a comparison with a local school or one in your province (of equal demographics, though).
If recreation is that important and you want sports equipment donated rather than equipment like computers, typewriters, books, etc., you will have to justify that. Perhaps you have all the educational equipment you need. Just make sure you include that in your academic profile. Then, you can make a proposal to validate the need for sports equipment.
If the children are headed in the right way academically, recreation would surely be a creative stimulus for the mind.

I believe that's completely possible! You should write a letter saying and showing with pictures of the children why you want that he do that, besides saying a nice things about him and the help he can give you. Just like you say before but you have to do an inspirated letter, he must feel that you really wants.

The community should be focused on educating these children not trying to get sports equipment for them.

Maybe you can contact Oprah and she can hook it up. She does a lot of things like this for people on the show. Go to her website and I believe you click on the "Be on the Oprah Show" link and see what categories there are. Sometimes she has things like this.
