i just turned 16 and want to enlist in the navy but can i still join after being stuck in a psych ward for depression and cutting for a week in houston cypress creek hostpital

cutting is usually a PDQ with no chance for a waiver.

at the very least, you must be free of all symptoms and off all meds for at least a year AND functioning normally during that time before you can even request a waiver.

Oh, yeah.. and the earliest you can get in is 17, with a HS diploma( GED will not cut it) and parents permission.

That will depend if you need meds to stay normal if you do than no. If you don't than their is a chance but that will depend on your psychological health between now and your 18th birthday. I would caution you that boot camp is extremely stressful and is notorious for bringing on depression especially those who have already succumbed to it before.

Check with your local recruiter, then check again with his commander. Typically a recruiter will say "sure, no problem" just to get credit for your name. Check with someone "over his head" for the straight info. Good luck.
