It is a seamless or segment ring.

You can get pierced with one, however the piercer will usually provide you with proper jewelry that is best for cleaning and healing. If you do decide to get it pierced with a segment ring, be sure to get surgical grade stainless steel or titanium, but keep in mind the piercer does not have to accept your jewelry and can refuse to use it. If the piercer does use the jewelry you provide they may change you a bit extra for the autoclaving of the jewelry to sterilize it (that's what I do). Worst case is that you get a CBR (one with a ball) and you just rotate it for a while to hide the ball and then once its healed, you change it out to a segment ring.

It's just a plain ring, and it would depend on the person piercing you. He/she will tell you what's best for you. They have their on sterilized jewerly right there.
