It is said, our soldiers want to stay in Iraq until the job is done. They can't bear being home while their brothers are still in harm's way. Do you believe this? Or is it propoganda from the war machine?

Rush and Fox news are opinionated, biased, and based on no fact/ experience. The military interviews are given by spokespersons specially selected and no demoralizing information about the army is allowed to be slipped out or in. Soldiers operate in their own bubble with little information from our biased media's or actual intelligence about the situation on the ground. I am willing to bet the majority of enlisted soldiers are feeling combat stress, and are suffering high rates of depression from this deployment in terms of marital and family problems. Going to war does a lot of funny things to the human psyche.

What you OBVIOUSLY don't understand is soldiers do things they wish didn't have to be done in the first place. THEY recognise that somethings are unpleasant but you do them anyway. It's like changing dirty diapers. They have to be changed and if not you then who will change them.

The soldiers over there now want something you and the insurgents don't even think about, a peaceful and stable Iraq. And they are willing to sacrifice things to get it.

It's not just Rush or Fox that report soldiers re-enlisting because men and women they served with are over there in harm's way. Do they really want to go back in harm's way? Not no but hell no. But they don't want their friends go there and not be by their side. Just because YOU don't feel as they do doesn't matter. They don't care how you feel. They care about what could happen to their friends. It's a conservative thing that YOU wouldn't understand.

i can't really comment on them not wanting to leave their "brothers", but i can tell you that as a military wife, we don't mind so much when my husband has to go to iraq b/c there is a good bit of extra pay involved and it's tax free.

you can equate it to major overtime at your regular job. see, that's the thing people fail to realize....it's their job. sure, it's not the most pleasant job in the world, but they made an educated choice to be in the military, so they go where uncle sam sends them.
My husband has to go on deployment for 6 months in 2007 and he will be touring the western pacific. he makes comments on occcasion that he would rather be going back to iraq. there, he wouldn't be spending any money and when he got home we would probably be able to pay off most, if not all, of my student loans and perhaps get a sizeable down payment on a new car.

so, sure, the media may be spinning things, but just remember that it's the military personnel's job to be there, so, yes it is sad that they are in danger, but it's also their choice.

if someone signed that dotted line thinking that they would never have to do to war, then i would call them an idiot. it's not whether you agree or disagree, it's about what is and isn't their job.

take care.

Contact, you haven't been in the military so you just don't understand. There are soldier who want to come home and there are alot that don't. They want to stay the course, stay in Iraq as long as it takes. Being in the military is like being with your family. They are your family. You eat, drink, sleep and work with the same people day after day and tell me if you don't feel like the guy next to you is your brother. Some people in the military bond with the people they work with better than their real families. It is not propaganda. There are soldiers who want to fight and want to win in Iraq. And there is nothing wrong with that. Doesn't make them vicious killers.

As an Iraq vet I can assure you that there is a strong sense of 'mission' over there.

Would we rather be back at home with our families? Of course.

But when faced with the choice of going back for another tour or leaving the job unfinished - most troops would rather finish the job.

I was medically retired and still feel a bit of guilt about not being there when people I know are.

First of all no warrior ever wants to lose a war. Secondly if you don't think your second sentnece is true then why are so many soldires VOLUNTEERING for multiple rotations to Iraq and Afganistan? For instance take the infantry captain who lost his foot to an IED. As soon as he had his prosthetic foot and had enough physical therapy to be able to walk with it he started fighting for his chance to go back and continue leading HIS men? Not only did he refuse medical retirement, he went to DC and convinced the Army to send him back.

Another eveidence is that in a battle, if there is only one person in the fighting position they have been found dead without a single shot fired. But if there is two people in a fighting position they have been found dead with every bullet expended. They are not protecting their own lives, they are defending the life of their Battle Buddy.

When the Army takes me back in I will volunteer to head over there right after signing the paperwork.

The propaganda machine you should be the most worried about is the biased media that only shows the negative things that are going on over there. They are more worried about pushing their agenda then correctly reporting the news. All of the fighting and problems that you hear about are happening in less than 20% of the country. We are building schools, there are tv stations, newspapers, and radio stations over there that are run freely by citisens for the first time in their history. Most of Iraq is free of violence and conducting normal business.

If you go by the casualty statistics you are more likely to be killed in Washington DC (26.6% death rate) than in Iraq (23.2% death rate).

Do research on your own and don't just listen to the media. Listen to both sides and make an informed decision.

Since President Obama's election, several conservative media figures have warned their audiences that Obama is planning to, in the words of Glenn Beck, "slowly but surely take away your gun or take away your ability to shoot a gun, carry a gun" or have suggested that a government effort to ban guns is likely. This is a lie by a representative of FOX and was stated on FOX News.

I don't get to go home when I leave Iraq. I have to go to Fort Hood. I would rather be here than there. And you evidently don't understand the bond between brothers in arms. If my fellow soldiers are here eating dirt, I want to be here eating dirt, as well.

My husband is in Iraq right now. I know that he would rather be home with me of course who wouldn't want to be with their families. However he wants to see the mission through. He would not leave his brothers behind.

As far as my buddies over there its kinda a mix feeling. Most dont want to be there or go back. But they also dont like there friends being over there either, takeing the risk of being injured. In my knowledge I dont know to many people who like to deploy to the desert or want to. They may not have a problem with it but they would rather home (duty station).
