Ummm... how big are you? Were you on "Honey, I shrunk the kids?" jk

Just talk to him. If you open up to him, he is more likely to open up to you. Guys are weird and don't know how to relate feelings well. They just need a little assistance (prodding). Good luck with that. I feel bad for your suffering (and his)!

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Why is 'getting into his head' necessary? It's quite clear what is wrong. He is hurting. You don't have to psyche him out you just have to be there with a loving and understanding attitude. There is nothing complicated in that. The best way to help him is to just be quiet and let him come to you for help.

Nobody wants someone else in their head so I suggest this. Be there for him by offering support as he needs it. He may need some time to himself to think of all the things this person means to him and others are not always welcome to these memories. Just be loving, patient and understanding.

Head will always be appreciated...as for his father, I'd say he's going to need silent support and understanding. What he's going to go through you couldn't possibly console him on unless you'd been through it yourself. Stick to the 'head'...it'll get much better results!

The best way to get in someone's head is to simply talk to them.

Just talk to him and support him. He'll talk to you and tell you what's going on when he can. He might not be able to put his feelings into words just yet.
