I understand how addictive the internet can be. There are so many interesting things to read about, look at, shop for, etc., especially this time of the year. I've had to break the addiction, too, and I think it's something that you'll continue to have to work at.
My advice is first, turn off the computer. That way you'll have to make the effort to get online & that will give you more time to realize what you're doing. You can ask yourself if this is really something you want to do, or are you just feeding your habit? You may need to quit cold turkey for a week or two, then gradually give yourself permission to get on once or twice a day for X amount of time--10 minutes, 20 min., perhaps up to 30 min. SET YOUR TIMER!
Consider having an accountability partner, someone who will ask you on a regular basis how much time you're spending on the computer. Allow them to change your password, and then when you want to get on the computer & it's within the guidelines you two have set, have the partner give you your password or type it in for you. Then, when you're finished, the partner needs to change the password again.
Finally, fill that time with something else. Read a book. Handwrite a letter to a friend. If you're a Christian, pray about it. Clean a room in your house (or a drawer, or a closet)--something that will give you instant gratification to see the fruits of your labor. Do something for someone else. Call someone who may be lonely. You get the picture.
Good luck! :)

Initially if you could recognize this addiction, that's the starting to you for overcoming.
You need to concentrate another things in order to stay away for internet.
Find another self indulgence,it'll be work.

Shut down your internet connection for one or two weeks.
In the Beginning God created heavens and earth.
God gives you air to breathe and sunshine to enjoy.
God gives you water to drink and food to eat.
God gives you a wonderful body and sound mind, to live.
God loves you, and you are precious to Him.
Son of God died on the Cross to save us from condemnation.
Jesus’ love is boundless and everlasting.
We have the hope of Heaven through Jesus.
Life therefore has fantastic and glorious future!
(Digestion of above can even prevent depression and suicidal thoughts.)

I have the same problem with TV. I just unplug it whenever I have important projects coming up.
Do the same with your computer.
Go to your library grab a book or a movie.
Get a hobby. I like chess but its up to you.
Quintessential of all.... stop using yahoo answers. its addictive, useful but addictive.

Hi there,
Set yourself a schedule of when you think it is okay to use the Internet. Keep yourself to 1 hour limits.
Don't use it at all during the day! If you feel the urge during the day go out! Go for walk go anyway but near you computer.
If you can't do this then I strongly suggest you let somebody else have a controlling password to your system so you can't access it without get permission for them.
